1966 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 1966 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 20–23 October at Mexico City Country Club in Mexico City, Mexico. It was the second women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 19 three-woman teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. The United States won the Trophy, beating Canada by nine strokes. Canada took the silver medal while defending champions France, a further eight strokes behind, took the bronze. Teams 19 teams contested the event. Each team had three players. Catherine Lacoste
Catherine Lacoste (born 27 June 1945) is a French amateur golfer and the only player who has won the U.S. Women's Open as an amateur. Early life She was born and grew up in Paris, France, with her parents, René Lacoste and Simone de la Chaume and three older brothers. Her family spent many holidays in the coast resort area of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, in France close to the Spanish border, near the Golf de Chantaco. Liv Forsell
Liv Wollin (née Forsell) (born 17 April 1945) is a Swedish professional golfer, who is regarded as having been one of the best Swedish female amateur players ever. Early life Wollin grew up in Lidingö outside Stockholm, Sweden, as the only girl among five siblings. Her parents were Jacob Forsell and Mette, nee Grut, and they were not golfers. She started out golf in 1958 as a caddie at Lidingö Golf Club close to their house. With few girls playing the game in those days, she usually played with boys. Belle Robertson
Isabella Robertson (née McCorkindale) (born 11 April 1936) is a Scottish golfer who won the British Ladies Amateur in 1981. Robertson represented Great Britain and Ireland in the Curtis Cup as a player on seven occasions and twice as non-playing captain. She was inducted into the Scottish Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Career Robertson learned to play golf at Dunaverty Golf Club in Argyll, Scotland. Ruth Porter (later Slark, 6 May 1939 – 15 September 2014) was an English amateur golfer. She had a successful junior career which included winning the 1956 Girls Amateur Championship and the 1958 British Girls' Stroke-play Championship. She won the English Women's Amateur Championship three times between 1959 and 1965, and played in the Curtis Cup in 1960, 1962 and 1964. Brigitte Varangot
Brigitte Varangot (1 May 1940 – 12 October 2007) was a French amateur golfer. Early life Varangot was born in Biarritz in the French Basque Country and was a self-taught golfer, who did not take many lessons and did not practice a lot. Lally Segard (also known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur) (1921–2018) became her mentor. Varangot and Segard came to win several foursomes tournaments in the 1960s. Varangot came to represent Golf de Saint Germain, situated 20 kilometers west of Paris, France. Marlene Stewart Streit
Marlene Stewart Streit, (born March 9, 1934) is a Canadian amateur golfer, and a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. She was born in Cereal, Alberta. She learned golf from Gordon McInnis Sr. at the Lookout Point Golf Club in Fonthill, Ontario. She is the most successful Canadian amateur female golfer, and the only golfer in history to have won the Australian, British, Canadian and U.S. Women's Amateurs. She graduated from Rollins College in 1956 and won the national individual intercollegiate golf championship that same year. Streit was a member of the Canadian team at the Espirito Santo Trophy in 1966, 1970, 1972, and 1984. She owns a home in Wellington, Florida. Espirito Santo Trophy
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women's Amateur Team Championships) is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. The inaugural event was held in 1964. It was instituted by the French Golf Federation in an agreement with the United States Golf Association. It was planned by Lally Segard, at the time known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur, from France and Mrs. Henri Prunaret from America. Segard also asked her friends Ricardo and Silvia Espirito Santo, from Portugal, to donate a trophy for the event, which they did. They had originally bought the golden cup, which had belonged to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, for an international Portuguese event that was not played anymore.
