1965 Trust Territory Of The Pacific Islands Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands on 19 January 1965. Background Constitutional changes for the Trust Territory were made by an order from the US Secretary of the Interior on 28 September 1964. A bicameral Congress of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, Congress was established, with a 12-member House of Delegates (later renamed the Senate) with two members from each of the six Districts of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, districts and a 21-member General Assembly (later renamed the House of Representatives) with seats apportioned to each district based on their population – five from Chuuk State, Truk, four from the Marshall Islands and Pohnpei State, Ponape, three from the Northern Mariana Islands, Mariana Islands and Palau and two from Yap State, Yap. Amata Kabua (November 17, 1928 – December 19, 1996) was the first President of the Marshall Islands from 1979 until his death in 1996 (five consecutive terms). Background Amata Kabua was a scion of Marshallese Royalty. Tosiwo Nakayama
was the first President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). He served two terms from 1979 until 1987. Biography Nakayama was born on November 23, 1931, on Piserach Island, part of Nomwunweito Atoll in what is now Chuuk State. At the time of his birth it formed part of the Japanese-administered South Seas Mandate.
