1964 United States House Of Representatives Elections In Oklahoma
The 1964 United States House of Representatives elections was an election for the United States House of Representatives in 1964 which coincided with the election to a full term of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Johnson's landslide victory over Barry Goldwater allowed his Democratic Party to gain a net of 36 seats from the Republican Party, giving them a two-thirds majority in the House. The election also marked the first time since Reconstruction that Republicans made inroads in the deep South. Disappointment over the results caused House Republicans to replace Minority Leader Charles Halleck with future President Gerald R. Ford. William Louis Dickinson
William Louis "Bill" Dickinson (June 5, 1925 – March 31, 2008), was an American politician. A member of the Republican Party, Dickinson served in the United States House of Representatives for Alabama's 2nd congressional district from 1965 to 1993. Early life Dickinson was born in Opelika in Lee County, Alabama. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the European Theater. After returning from the war, he graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law. In Opelika, Dickinson practiced law for two years beginning in 1950. In 1952, registered with the Democratic Party, Dickinson won his first elected office as city court judge. He then served as a juvenile court and common pleas judge in Lee County from 1954 to 1958 and judge of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of Alabama from 1958 to 1962. Howard Hollis Callaway (April 2, 1927 – March 15, 2014) was an American businessman and politician. He served as a Republican member for the 3rd district of Georgia of the United States House of Representatives. He also served as the 11th United States Secretary of the Army. Life and career Callaway was born in LaGrange, Georgia, the son of Virginia Hollis and Cason Callaway, and the grandson of Fuller Earle Callaway. Callaway attended Episcopal High School, graduating in 1944. Callaway then attended Georgia Tech and the United States Military Academy, where he earned a degree in military engineering in 1949. Alabama's 4th congressional district is a U.S. congressional district in Alabama, which elects a representative to the United States House of Representatives. Arthur Glenn Andrews (January 15, 1909 – September 25, 2008) was an American politician and a United States representative from Alabama. Biography Andrews was born in Anniston in Calhoun County in North Alabama, a son of Roger Lee Andrews and the former Beryl Elizabeth Jones. He attended public schools in Birmingham and attended John Herbert Phillips High School there. He then graduated from Mercersburg Academy, a boarding school in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania.
