Television In Ireland
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. The biggest single multichannel television network in Ireland is Sky Ireland, which broadcasts digital satellite television services. Maria Josephine Doyle Kennedy (born 25 September 1964) is an Irish singer and actress. Diarmuid Gavin
Diarmuid Gavin (born 10 May 1964) is an Irish garden designer and television personality. He has presented gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show on nine occasions from 1995 to 2016, winning a number of medals, including gold in 2011. He has also authored or co-authored at least ten gardening-related books. Early life Gavin was born in London on 10 May 1964, to Irish parents, and brought to Ireland when he was a month old. It is the world's second longest-running late-night talk show, after the American ''The Tonight Show''. Dáithà Lacha
''Dáithà Lacha'' (; meaning "David Duck") was an Irish language television cartoon series for children broadcast on RTÉ during the 1960s. The series was not animated, however. For each five-minute episode, the creator, illustrator, and camera operator, Flann Ó Riain, produced a static comic strip which was shown one frame at a time. A single narrator, Pádraic Ó Gaora, described the action and spoke the dialogue. As well as the central character, the series featured Maidhc the dog and PuisÃn the cat. The first episode was broadcast on 31 December 1962. For the first few years of its run, the series was transmitted three days a week. By the time the final episode appeared in July 1969, ''Dáithà Lacha'' had become a weekly show. Discovery (Irish TV Series)
''Discovery'' was the first documentary television series to be broadcast on RTÉ. The series started on 7 January 1964 with a programme on Dublin Airport. The series producer was Charlie Scott, and Brian Cleeve was the presenter and scriptwriter. Each half-hour edition focused on a specific subject, such as a commercial or state enterprise, an aspect of Irish culture, or some notable feature of the country's landscape. In December 1964, Brian Cleeve received a Jacobs' Award for his contribution to the programme. However, in January 1966, it was announced that Cleeve was being dropped as the series' narrator because his voice was no longer felt to be suitable. Later that year, he left the programme completely to join the new ''7 Days'' team. Frank Hall (24 February 1921 – 21 September 1995) was an Irish broadcaster, journalist, satirist and film censor. He is best remembered for his satirical revue programme ''Hall's Pictorial Weekly''.
