Events * 7 November – WGEN-AM signs on the air at 1500 AM in Geneseo, Illinois. * 22 November – On the ABC Radio network, newscaster Don Gardiner interrupts the song "Hooray for Hollywood" by Doris Day to announce that shots have been fired at the motorcade of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. This is the first national broadcast bulletin of the news of the shooting. Geneseo, Illinois
Geneseo is a city in Henry County, Illinois, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 6,539. Geneseo is 20 miles east of the Quad Cities, at the intersection of Interstate 80, U.S. Route 6 and Illinois Route 82. Geneseo is well known for its Victorian-style architecture, quaint downtown, and its successful high school music and football programs. History Geneseo was founded as a Christian colony in 1836 by seven families of the Congregationalist denomination from Geneseo, New York and Bergen, New York seeking to establish a "church in the wilderness". Roderick R. Stewart, one of the city's founding members, named the town Geneseo after the settlers' town of origin in New York. KDWA
KDWA (1460 AM/97.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a hyperlocal News/Talk format, licensed to Hastings, Minnesota. The station is currently owned by K & M Broadcasting, Inc. and features national news programming from the USA Radio Network at the top of each hour. Locally, KDWA is especially known for its coverage of local news and high school sports for both Hastings and Prescott. History KDWA began broadcasting on October 24, 1963. It was founded by John McKane, a former editor for the Hastings Star Gazette. The station's first news director, Dave Baudoin, became the majority co-owner in 1968. In 1971, KDWA was allowed to broadcast at night, at a reduced wattage output. Previously, the station (like many AM stations at the time) would sign on at sunrise and sign off at sunset. Chad Brock
Chad Brock (born July 31, 1963) is an American country music singer and disc jockey. Before beginning his musical career in the late 1990s, he was a professional wrestler in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), until an injury forced him to retire. Brock signed to Warner Bros. Records' Nashville division in the late 1990s, releasing three studio albums – 1998's ''Chad Brock'', 2000's '' Yes!'', and 2001's '' III'' — for WB. Those albums, overall, produced seven singles on the ''Billboard'' country music charts, including the number-one hit " Yes!" and the Top Five " Ordinary Life". Brock parted company with Warner Bros,in 2002, and signed to Broken Bow Records a year later; although he released five singles for them (of which four charted), his album for Broken Bow was not released, and he left that label as well. Dean Esposito (born July 20, 1963), better known as Dino, is an American DJ, singer-songwriter, and record producer. Early life Dean Esposito was born to Frank and Francis Esposito in the Encino district of Los Angeles, California. The family later moved to Hawaii and Connecticut before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada, where his father became a restaurant owner. It was here that Dino pursued his musical interests. He earned his bachelor's degree in communications/broadcasting and music at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Shortly after, he accepted a job as a program director/radio DJ at his college radio station, with his own morning show called "Urban Sunrise". ''Opie and Anthony'' was an American radio show hosted by Gregg Hughes, Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia that aired from March 1995 to July 2014, with comedian Jim Norton (comedian), Jim Norton serving as third mic from 2001. The show originated in 1994 when Cumia took part in a song parody contest on Hughes' nighttime show on WBAB on Long Island, New York. After subsequent appearances, Cumia decided to pursue a radio career and teamed with Hughes to host their own show. The show began with a three-year stint in afternoons at WKVB (FM), WAAF in Boston. In 1998, after an April Fools' Day prank led to their firing, Hughes and Cumia relocated to afternoons at WNEW-FM, WNEW in New York City.
