Television In Ireland
Television in the Republic of Ireland is available through a variety of platforms. The digital terrestrial television service is known as Saorview and is the primary source of broadcast television since analogue transmissions ended on 24 October 2012. Digital satellite (from Sky Ireland, Saorsat and other European satellite service providers are available) and digital cable (from Virgin Media Ireland) are also widely used. The Irish satellite fill-in service (Saorsat) is via Ka-Sat using the Irish KA band spot and has been available since June 2011. While many people receive their television via Saorview, which is broadcast by 2RN, more than half subscribe to multichannel television networks. The biggest single multichannel television network in Ireland is Sky Ireland, which broadcasts digital satellite television services. Dáithí Lacha
''Dáithí Lacha'' (; meaning "David Duck") was an Irish language television cartoon series for children broadcast on RTÉ during the 1960s. The series was not animated, however. For each five-minute episode, the creator, illustrator, and camera operator, Flann Ó Riain, produced a static comic strip which was shown one frame at a time. A single narrator, Pádraic Ó Gaora, described the action and spoke the dialogue. As well as the central character, the series featured Maidhc the dog and Puisín the cat. The first episode was broadcast on 31 December 1962. For the first few years of its run, the series was transmitted three days a week. By the time the final episode appeared in July 1969, ''Dáithí Lacha'' had become a weekly show. Martin King (weather Presenter)
Martin King (born 7 April 1963) is an Irish broadcaster who was the Monday to Thursday co-host of ''The Six O'Clock Show'' on Virgin Media One (formerly TV3) and presents his own radio show on Saturday Mid Morning on Q102. King was TV3's first ever weather anchor when it launched back in 1998. Career King got involved in radio when he was 15 years old working for pirate radio stations including Big D and Sunshine 101. He joined 98FM when it launched in 1989 where he was one of their main on-air personalities before becoming TV3's weather anchor when it launched on 20 September 1998. King also had his own Saturday morning show on Today FM from 2002 until 2017. King's personality-driven style of weather forecasting on TV3 won King many awards and he was one of the main features of TV3's news presentation. Graham Norton
Graham William Walker (born 4 April 1963), better known by his stage name Graham Norton, is an Irish actor, author, comedian, commentator, and presenter. Well known for his work in the UK, he is a five-time BAFTA TV Award winner for his comedy chat show ''The Graham Norton Show'' (2007–present) and an eight-time award-winner overall—he received the British Academy Television Award for Best Entertainment Performance three times for ''So Graham Norton'' (2000 to 2002). Originally shown on BBC Two before moving to other slots on BBC One, his chat show succeeded ''Friday Night with Jonathan Ross'' in BBC One's prestigious late-Friday-evening slot in 2010. ''Broadsheet'' was a Telefís Éireann television current affairs programme presented by John O'Donoghue, Brian Cleeve, and Brian Farrell and broadcast in Ireland live on weekday evenings from 1962 to 1963. Background ''Broadsheet'' was created by Telefís Éireann as the newly established station's flagship current affairs programme. Broadcast live from Monday to Friday between 6:40pm and 7:15pm, the new programme was in direct competition with BBC Television's ''Tonight'' programme. It is the world's second longest-running late-night talk show, after the American ''The Tonight Show''.
