The 1963 Brownlow Medal was the 36th year the award was presented to the player adjudged the fairest and best player during the Victorian Football League (VFL) home and away season. Bob Skilton of the South Melbourne Football Club won the medal by polling twenty votes during the 1963 VFL season. Bob Skilton
Robert John "Bob" Skilton (born 8 November 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who represented in the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL). Playing as a Football (Australian rules) positions#Followers, rover, Skilton is one of only four players to have won the Brownlow Medal three times—in 1959 Brownlow Medal, 1959 (when he tied with Verdun Howell), 1963 Brownlow Medal, 1963, and 1968 Brownlow Medal, 1968. John Henderson (Australian Rules Footballer)
John Henderson (born 31 August 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the VFL. Henderson played mostly as a centreman but was originally a half back. He was a premiership player with Collingwood in 1958 and a Victorian interstate representative. Although he never won a best and fairest he was Collingwood's top vote getter in the 1963 Brownlow Medal count, finishing 4th in the league. He was appointed captain of Collingwood for the 1965 season. After playing in the 1966 VFL Grand Final, which they lost to St Kilda by a point, Henderson left Collingwood and joined Yarraville in the VFA as coach. In 1972, Henderson coached local team Donvale United to a premiership in the ESCFA. Brian Dixon (Australian Footballer)
Brian James Dixon (born 20 May 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer and Victorian politician. Dixon played 252 VFL games for Melbourne between 1954 and 1968, playing mostly on the wing. He played in five premierships, winning Melbourne's best and fairest in 1960, while in 1961 he was selected in the All-Australian team and he also won the Tassie Medal for his performances at the 1961 Brisbane Carnival. In 2000 he was named in Melbourne's Team of the Century. Despite still playing football for Melbourne, he entered parliament in 1964, as the member for the now abolished seat of St Kilda, representing the Liberal Party. Being from the moderate wing of the party he clashed with then Premier Henry Bolte, especially over the hanging of Ronald Ryan which Dixon strongly opposed. Ron Barassi
Ronald Dale Barassi Jr. (born 27 February 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer, coach and media personality. Regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of the game, Barassi was the first player to be inaugurated into the Australian Football Hall of Fame as a "Legend", and is one of three Australian rules footballers to be elevated to the same status in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. When Barassi was five years old, his father, Melbourne Football Club player Ron Barassi Sr., died in action at Tobruk during World War II. Barassi was determined to follow in his father's footsteps at Melbourne, and heavy lobbying by the club to recruit him resulted in the introduction of the father-son rule, still in use by the AFL. Colin Youren
Colin George Youren (3 June 1939 – 20 July 2015) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). His father George Youren played for Collingwood in 1919. A wingman, Youren was a member of Hawthorn's inaugural premiership side in 1961 and represented Victoria at interstate football. He died in 2015 from cancer. Sergio Valentino Silvagni (28 June 1938 – 15 July 2021) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL), mostly as a Australian rules football positions, ruck-rover. Ian Law
Ian Law (born 27 September 1938) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A rover, Law won the Hawthorn Best and fairest award in just his second year of VFL football and also finished third in the 1961 Brownlow Medal count. He played in Hawthorn's 1961 premiership team and was Club Champion twice more before retiring after the 1968 season. Ken Fraser
Ken Fraser (born 17 February 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer in the (then) Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally recruited from the Essendon Baptists St John's club (which has since merged with Ascot Vale Presbyterians to become the Tullamarine Football Club) in the Essendon District Football League, Fraser mainly played at centre half-forward. He won the Essendon Football Club's Best First-Year Player award in 1958 and went on to play in two premiership teams, with the second premiership as captain. He also won two club best-and-fairest awards and represented Victoria on many occasions. In 2001, Fraser was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. Alan Morrow
Alan G. Morrow (born 29 November 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer in the VFL. A hard working tough ruckman who took on a ruck role when Carl Ditterich missed the 1966 Grand Final due to suspension. St Kilda controversially recruited Morrow and Bill Stephenson from Sale, illegally offering money. Morrow was injured early in the 1965 Grand Final, the favoured Saints losing the match in part due to missing Morrow. The Grand Final win in 1966 was his last VFL game. Kevin Joseph Murray MBE (born 18 June 1938), commonly nicknamed "Bulldog", is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League in 333 games over 18 seasons. Darrel Baldock
Darrel John Baldock AM (29 September 1938 – 2 February 2011) was an Australian sportsman and state politician. He played Australian rules football for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), East Devonport Football Club and Latrobe Football Club in the North West Football Union (NWFU), and New Norfolk Football Club in the Tasmanian Australian National Football League (TANFL).
