1962 United States Figure Skating Championships
The 1962 U.S. Figure Skating Championships was held in Boston, Massachusetts from February 1 to 4, 1962. The compulsory figures and initial round dance events were held at the Skating Club of Boston rink, while the finals were held at the McHugh Forum rink at Boston College. Medals were awarded in three colors: gold (first), silver (second), and bronze (third) in four disciplines – men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing – across three levels: senior, junior, and novice. The event determined the U.S. team for the 1962 World Championships. It was the first national championship held following the deaths of the entire 1961 U.S. World Figure Skating team in the crash of Sabena Flight 548 near Brussels, Belgium on February 15, 1961. Jerry Fotheringill
Jerry Joseph Fotheringill (born March 7, 1942 in Tacoma, Washington) is an American former pair skater. With sister Judianne Fotheringill, he was the U.S. national champion in 1963 and 1964. They represented the United States at the 1964 Winter Olympics where they placed 7th. The Fotheringills were originally from Tacoma, Washington but later relocated to train in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they represented the Broadmoor Skating Club. Pieter Kollen
Pieter Kollen (May 27, 1939—August 5, 2007) was an American figure skater and coach. In 1962 he won the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in pair skating with partner Dorothyann Nelson, and also placed second in the ice dance competition at the same event. They placed 8th in pairs and 7th in dance at the 1962 World Figure Skating Championships. Ronald Lynn Thomas (July 9, 1959 – April 11, 2021) was an American professional football player who was a defensive back for two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). Lorraine Hanlon Comanor (born in 1946) is an American retired figure skater who competed in ladies singles. She is the 1963 U.S. national champion. After retiring from ice skating, Hanlon went on to attend medical school and practiced as an anesthesiologist for 20 years before going into pharmaceutical medicine. She is the 1960 Olympic bronze medalist and the 1962 U.S. national champion. Personal life Barbara Ann Roles is the daughter of Carl A. Roles. She married after retiring in 1960.
