1962 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1962 took place February 18–25, 1962 in Zakopane, Poland. Zakopane became the second city to host the world championships three times (1929, 1939), joining Lahti, Finland (1926, 1938, and 1958). Women's 5 km and the ski jumping individual normal hill made their event debuts at these championships. Zakopane
Zakopane ( Podhale Goral: ''Zokopane'') is a town in the extreme south of Poland, in the southern part of the Podhale region at the foot of the Tatra Mountains. From 1975 to 1998, it was part of Nowy Sącz Voivodeship; since 1999, it has been part of Lesser Poland Voivodeship. its population was 27,266. Kalevi Laurila
Kalevi Laurila (5 December 1937 – 13 April 1991) was a Finnish cross-country skier. He competed in all cross-country skiing events at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics and won two medals in the 4 × 10 km relay, placing fourth-eleventh in individual events. At the world championships he won three silver medals, in the 30 km in 1966 and in the 4 × 10 km relay in 1962 and 1966. His last international competition was the 1974 World Championships, where his relay team finished fourth. Domestically he won seven titles, in the 15 km (1967–68, 1970 and 1974), 30 km (1966 and 1968) and 50 km (1967). Laurila was a decorated police sergeant. Besides skiing Laurila he competed in rowing and biathlon, winning a silver medal in 1973 and a bronze in 1978 at the European Police Championships. Toini Gustafsson
Toini Gustafsson Rönnlund (born Toini Karvonen; 17 January 1938) is a Swedish former cross-country skier. She competed in the 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympics and won four medals. Gustafsson also won the 10 km race at the Holmenkollen ski festival in each of 1960, 1967, and 1968. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships she collected three medals with a silver in 1962 (3 × 5 km relay) and two bronzes in 1966 (10 km and 3×5 km relay). For her successes in Nordic skiing and at the Holmenkollen, Gustafsson received the Holmenkollen medal in 1967 (Shared with Ole Ellefsæter). Britt Strandberg
Britt Marianne Strandberg (later ''Lundén'', born 31 March 1934) is a former Swedish cross-country skier. She competed at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Winter Olympics in the 3 × 5 km relay and 5 and 10 km events. She won three medals in the relay with a gold in 1960 and silvers in 1964 and 1968. Her best individual result was fourth place over 10 km in 1964, only 7.4 seconds behind the bronze medal. Barbro Martinsson (born 16 August 1935) is a former Swedish cross-country skier who competed during the 1960s. Born in Valbo, she won two silver medals in the 3 × 5 km relay at the 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1968 Winter Olympics. Martinsson finished fourth in the 1968 Winter Olympics in both 5 km and 10 km. Lyubov Vladimirovna Kozyreva (russian: Любо́вь Влади́мировна Ко́зырева), Lyubov Baranova from 1960 onwards (27 August 1929 – 22 June 2015), was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed in the 1950s and 1960s with VSS Burevestnik. She was born in the settlement of Bugry, Vsevolozhsky District, Leningrad Oblast and died in Moscow. Alevtina Pavlovna Kolchina (russian: Алевти́на Па́вловна Ко́лчина alternate spelling: Alevtina Koltsjina; 11 November 1930 – 1 March 2022) was a Soviet cross-country skier who competed during the 1950s and 1960s for Burevestnik and later for Dynamo sports societies. She competed in four Winter Olympics, earning a total of five medals.
