1962 FIFA World Cup Knockout Stage
The knockout stage of the 1962 FIFA World Cup was the second and final stage of the competition, following the group stage. The knockout stage began on 10 June with the quarter-finals and ended on 17 June 1962 with the final match, held at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago. The top two teams from each group (eight in total) advanced to the knockout stage to compete in a single-elimination style tournament. A third place play-off also was played between the two losing teams of the semi-finals. Brazil won the final 3–1 against Czechoslovakia for their second World Cup title. 1962 FIFA World Cup
The 1962 FIFA World Cup was the seventh edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. It was held from 30 May to 17 June 1962 in Chile. The qualification rounds took place between August 1960 and December 1961, with 56 teams entering from six confederations, and fourteen qualifying for the finals tournament alongside Chile, the hosts, and Brazil, the defending champions. Brazil successfully defended their World Cup title, defeating Czechoslovakia 3–1 in the final in the Chilean capital of Santiago. They became the second team, after Italy in 1934 and 1938, to win the World Cup twice consecutively; no team has since achieved the feat. Jaime Caupolicán RamÃrez Banda (14 August 1931 – 26 February 2003) was a Chilean former professional footballer who played as a right winger. Club career RamÃrez was skillful with the ball, he had great technique and even at his height, he did great heading, playing at the junior divisions of Bádminton F.C. (1946–1947), Universidad de Chile in 1949–1952, 1962 and 1966, he was a Colo-Colo champion with the team in 1956, O'Higgins, Huachipato, Audax Italiano, Unión San Felipe, Palestino and outside of his country of origin he played for Racing Club of Argentina, Espanyol from Barcelona and Granada from Spain. Luis Armando Eyzaguirre Silva (born 22 June 1939), also known as Fifo, is a former Chilean football player. He played right back in the Universidad de Chile football team known as the '' Ballet Azul'', with which he won five national championships.
