1961–62 Loyola Ramblers Men's Basketball Team
The 1961–62 Loyola Ramblers men's basketball team represented Loyola University Chicago. The head coach was George Ireland. The Ramblers went 23–4 and earned a third place finish in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Jerry Harkness led the team in scoring with a total of 567 points, making for an average of 21.0 points per game. Les Hunter led in field goal percentage at 49.3%, going 137 for 238 on the season. Vic Rouse led the team in rebounding, making 294 rebounds for a per-game average of 11.3, and in free throw percentage, sinking 85 out of 109 throws for 78.0% on the season. George Ireland
George Ireland (June 15, 1913 – September 14, 2001) was an American basketball coach who led the Loyola Ramblers to the 1963 NCAA championship. Background Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Ireland was an All-American basketball player at the University of Notre Dame during the 1930s. His first coaching job was at Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois, which he led to 262–87 record from 1936 to 1951. The UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena (originally the Milwaukee Arena and formerly MECCA Arena and U.S. Cellular Arena) is an indoor arena located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Calihan Hall is a 7,917-seat multi-purpose arena in Detroit. It is home to the University of Detroit Mercy Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball, Titans basketball team. The arena opened in 1952. The building was dedicated on May 25, 1952 as the Memorial Building. The first basketball game was played on December 2 of that year when the Titans defeated Kalamazoo College, 75–61. The Detroit Mercy Titans men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan, and competes in NCAA Division I men's basketball as a member of the Horizon League. The Ohio Bobcats men's basketball team is an intercollegiate varsity sports program of Ohio University.
