The 1961 Pepperdine Waves football team represented George Pepperdine College Pepperdine University was known as George Pepperdine College from 1937 to 1970. as an independent during the 1961 NCAA College Division football season. The team was led by second-year head coach Pence Dacus. The Waves played home games at Sentinel Field on the campus of Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California. Pence Dacus
Wilfred Pence Dacus (July 26, 1931 – February 15, 2019) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Pepperdine University from 1960 to 1961, compiling a record of 2–18. He began his collegiate playing career at Tarleton State University, where he was a quarterback. Dacus moved on to Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he lettered in both football and basketball. He was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 1954 NFL Draft. Dacus was born on July 26, 1931, in San Saba, Texas. He grew up in San Saba and Brady, Texas. Balboa Stadium
Balboa Stadium is an American football and soccer stadium on the west coast of the United States, located in San Diego, California. Just east of San Diego High School, the original stadium was built in 1914 as part of the 1915 Panama–California Exposition, also in Balboa Park, with a capacity of 15,000.
