The 1959 Volta a Catalunya was the 39th edition of the Volta a Catalunya cycle race and was held from 6 September to 13 September 1959. The race started in Montjuïc and finished in Barcelona. The race was won by Salvador Botella. Salvador Botella Rodrigo (March 27, 1929 – December 18, 2006) was a Spanish road bicycle racer, who competed as a professional from 1953 to 1962. He won the ''Volta a Catalunya'' in 1953 and 1959. He participated in 19 Grand Tours, including eight editions of the Vuelta a España, seven of the Giro d'Italia, and four of the Tour de France. Antonio Suárez
Antonio Suárez Vázquez (20 May 1932 – 6 January 1981) was a professional road bicycle racing, road racing cyclist from Spain between 1956 and 1965. He is most famous for winning the General classification, overall title and the King of the Mountains, climbers classification at the 1959 Vuelta a España. In addition, Suarez won the points classification at the 1961 Vuelta and a career total of five stages at the Vuelta. Suárez also won a stage and finished on the podium in third place at the 1961 Giro d’Italia behind Arnaldo Pambianco of Italy and Jacques Anquetil of France.
