Milt Bruhn
Milton Caspar Bruhn (July 28, 1912 – May 14, 1991) was an American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 1956 to 1966, compiling a record of 52–45–6 (.534). Bruhn led the Wisconsin Badgers to two outright Big Ten Conference championships in 1959 and 1962. His teams had two straight seven-win seasons, in 1958 and 1959, and an 8–2 record in 1962, with the two losses coming at Ohio State, 14–7, and against #1 USC, 42–37, in the 1963 Rose Bowl. Wisconsin ended the 1962 season with a #2 ranking, which remain the highest AP Poll and UPI/Coaches' Poll season-ending rankings for the Wisconsin football program in the history of these polls. Dave Kocourek
David Allen Kocourek (August 20, 1937 – April 24, 2013) was an American gridiron football player. He played college football at Wisconsin. Career As a professional, he played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) in 1959, and then played for nine years as a tight end in the American Football League (AFL), from 1960 through 1965 for the Los Angeles/San Diego Chargers; for the AFL's Miami Dolphins in 1966; and for the AFL's Oakland Raiders in 1967 and 1968. He caught 55 passes for 1,055 yards in 1961 for 19.2 yards per reception, helping the Chargers win their second straight AFL West title. He was an AFL All-Star for four straight years, from 1961 through 1964, and was on the Charger team that defeated the Boston Patriots for the 1963 AFL Championship. 1959 Green Bay Packers Season
The 1959 Green Bay Packers season was their 39th season in the National Football League and 41st overall. The team finished with a 7–5 record in the season under first-year coach Vince Lombardi to earn a third-place finish in the Western Conference. It was the Packers' first winning season in a dozen years, the last was a 6–5–1 mark in 1947. Green Bay had just one victory during the previous season in 1958 with the worst record in the twelve-team league, and were 3–9 in 1957, tied for worst. 1959 Cleveland Browns Season
The 1959 Cleveland Browns season was the team's tenth season with the National Football League. Future Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown rushed for 1,329 yards, leading the league for the third straight year, and 14 touchdowns. QB Milt Plum, who was drafted by the Browns in the 1957 draft with Brown would emerge as a solid quarterback. The Browns had been looking for a replacement for Otto Graham ever since the Hall of Famer retired—for the second time—following the 1955 season. They finally found him when Plum, a second-round draft pick in 1957, threw for 14 TDs with just six interceptions. However, the Browns would finish just 7–5 in 1959, the second in what would turn out to be a string of six straight seasons in which the Browns had decent to very good teams without qualifying for the postseason. Edward Robert Zeman (February 22, 1937 – May 3, 2019) was an American football defensive back who played six seasons in the American Football League from 1960 to 1966. Dale Hackbart
Dale Leonard Hackbart (born July 21, 1938) is a former American football defensive back who played twelve seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Green Bay Packers, Washington Redskins, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Cardinals (NFL), St. Louis Cardinals, and Denver Broncos from 1960 to 1973. He also played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1964 and 1965. Hackbart initially focused on baseball. He spent a season playing baseball for the Grand Forks Chiefs; a Class C minor league team in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Bud Grant convinced Hackbart to drop baseball and concentrate on a career in the National Football League. The 1958 Minnesota Golden Gophers football team represented the University of Minnesota in the 1958 Big Ten Conference football season. In their fifth year under head coach Murray Warmath, the Golden Gophers compiled a 1–8 record and were outscored by their opponents by a combined total of 157 to 115. Guard Everette Gerths received the team's Most Valuable Player award. Center Mike Svendsen was named All-Big Ten first team. Svendsen and offensive lineman Perry Gehring were named Academic All-Big Ten. Total attendance at five home games was 288,817, an average of 57,763 per game. The largest crowd was against Iowa.
