General elections were held in the Netherlands Antilles on 1 September 1958. This snap election was held after discussions about changing the Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Ben Leito
Bernadito M. "Ben" Leito (6 February 1923 – September 1996) was a Curaçaoan economist, politician and administrator. He served as Governor of the Netherlands Antilles from 1970 until 1983, and the Dutch Council of State from 1987 until 1993. Biography Leito was born on 6 February 1923 in Curaçao. He went to the Netherlands to attend the '' Hogere Burgerschool'' (high school) in Leiden. In 1945, he studied economy at Tilburg University, and graduated in 1950. In 1952, Leito became a civil servant in Curaçao, and started to work for the finance department in 1953. He was a candidate in the 1954 Netherlands Antilles general election for the Catholic People's Party, but did not get elected. In 1961, he became head of finance for Curaçao, and was promoted head of finance for the Netherlands Antilles in 1965. In 1968, he served as acting Lieutenant governor of Curaçao. Sylvius Gerard Marie "Boy" Rozendal (4 July 1928 – 10 June 2003) was an Curaçao politician and journalist. He served as Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles from 1971 until 1975, Minister of Finance and Deputy Prime Minister from 1969 until 1971, and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Netherlands Antilles from 1971 until 1975. Biography Rozendal was born on 4 July 1928 in Curaçao. After graduating high school, he went to the Netherlands to study at the University of Amsterdam, and in 1957, obtained his doctorate in political and social sciences at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Genève, Switzerland. Rozendal returned to Curaçao and in 1958 joined the Democratic Party. In 1959, he was first elected to the island council of Curaçao. He served as Minister of Social and Economic Affairs from 1957 until 1968, and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles from 1968 until 1969.
