German Television
Television in Germany began in Berlin on 22 March 1935, broadcasting for 90 minutes three times a week. It was home to the first public television station in the world, named ''Fernsehsender Paul Nipkow''. In 2000, the German television market had approximately 36.5 million television households, making it the largest television market in Europe. Nowadays, 95% of German households have at least one television receiver. All the main German TV channels are free-to-air. History In 1948 the British occupation forces allowed NWDR to broadcast television programmes for the British zone. Other regional networks also started to launch television in their own areas. Margot Hielscher
Margot Hielscher (29 September 1919 – 20 August 2017) was a German singer and film actress. She appeared in over fifty films between and 1939 and 1994. Hielscher was born in Berlin. In 1957, she was chosen to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 1957 with the song " Telefon, Telefon" ''(Telephone, Telephone)''. The song finished fourth out of ten, with eight points. Hielscher was chosen again to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 1958 with the song " Für Zwei Groschen Musik" ''(Music For Two Pennies)''. The song finished seventh out of ten, with 5 points. In 1989, she starred in the TV series ''Rivalen der Rennbahn''. She died in Munich, aged 97. Eurovision Song Contest 1958
The Eurovision Song Contest 1958 was the third edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (NTS), the contest, originally known as the (English: Grand Prix of the Eurovision Song Contest 1958) was held on Wednesday 12 March 1958 at the AVRO Studios in Hilversum, the Netherlands and hosted by Dutch television presenter Hannie Lips. This marked the first time that the contest was hosted in the country of the preceding year's winner, a tradition that has been continued ever since (with some exceptions). Ten countries participated, equalling the number which took part the previous year; made its first appearance in the contest, while the decided not to participate. Für Zwei Groschen Musik
Germany was represented by Margot Hielscher, with the song '" Für zwei Groschen Musik", at the 1958 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 12 March in Hilversum, Netherlands. "Für zwei Groschen Musik" was chosen at the German national final held on 20 January. This was Hielscher's second consecutive Eurovision appearance for Germany. Before Eurovision National final The national final was held on 6 February at the Kleine Westfalenhalle in Dortmund, hosted by Anaid Iplikjan and Kurt A. Jung. Twelve songs took part, with the winner being decided by a jury. Only two song titles with performers are currently confirmed: the winning song and "Die Braut der sieben Meere" by Lale Andersen.
