The 1958 Clemson Tigers baseball team represented Clemson University in the 1958 NCAA University Division baseball season. The team played their home games at Riggs Field in Clemson, South Carolina. The team was coached by Bill Wilhelm, who completed his first season at Clemson. Bill Wilhelm
Billy Wilhelm (June 11, 1929 – December 24, 2010) was an American college baseball coach who was the head coach of the Clemson Tigers from 1958 to 1993. In his 36 seasons as head coach, Wilhelm had a record of 1,161–536–10. Before coming to Clemson, Wilhelm played several seasons of minor league baseball and served one season as an assistant baseball coach at North Carolina. Playing career Wilhelm played two seasons of college baseball at NC State, and he signed a professional contract with the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 1950, splitting that season between the Goldsboro Cardinals and the Allentown Cardinals. Wilhelm then spent two years out of baseball from 1951 to 1952, when he served in the United States Army in the Korean War. In 1953, Wilhelm returned from military service and had his most successful minor league season. Sims Legion Park
Sims Legion Park is a 3,000-seat baseball park in Gastonia, North Carolina that is the home field for Gaston College baseball. It has hosted the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League, as well as American Legion Baseball, American Legion baseball. The Grizzlies moved to Spartanburg, South Carolina starting with the 2021 season and were renamed the Spartanburgers. The stadium underwent a total rebuild in the 1970s in order to attract a Minor League Baseball team. Since then the stadium has seen many tenants come and go. An ongoing effort to build a new ballpark in Gastonia in 2021 produced CaroMont Health Park, home to the Gastonia Honey Hunters of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, Atlantic League. Cary C. Boshamer Stadium is a baseball stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is the home of the North Carolina Tar Heels baseball team. History The previous home of the Tar Heels was a multi-use venue called Emerson Field, which sat some 2,400 people. The combination baseball/football field was opened in 1916 on the site of the existing athletic field (ca. 1900) and named for a university benefactor, Captain Isaac E. Emerson, best known as the inventor of Bromo-Seltzer. The football team left Emerson for Kenan Memorial Stadium in 1927.
