1957–58 FC Basel Season
The 1957–58 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 64th season in their existence. It was their twelfth consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's chairman for his twelfth successive period. Overview The Austrian ex-international footballer Rudi Strittich was hired as new team manager this season. He took over from Béla Sárosi who had moved on to Jahn Regensburg. Basel played a total of 42 games this season. Of these 42 matches 26 were in the domestic league, two were in the Swiss Cup and 14 were friendly matches. FC Basel
Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss football club based in Basel, in the Canton of Basel-Stadt. FC Winterthur
FC Winterthur is a Swiss football club based in Winterthur, Canton of Zürich. They play in the Swiss Super League, the first tier of Swiss football, and appeared regularly in the Nationalliga A during the 20th century. Their home is the Stadion Schützenwiese. Hans Hügi
Hans Hügi, known as Hügi (I), (29 September 1926 - 1 February 2000) was a Swiss footballer who played twelve years for FC Basel and two seasons for Young Fellows Zürich as defender. Football career Between the years 1947 and 1959 Hügi (I) played a total of 296 games for Basel scoring a total of 56 goals. 226 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 24 in the Swiss Cup and 76 were friendly games. He scored 38 goal in the domestic league, five in the Swiss Cup and the other 14 were scored during the test games. Wilhelm Jermann
Wilhelm Franziskus "Willy" Jermann (19 April 1932 – 12 December 2020) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1950s as defender in the late 1950s. Jermann joined FC Basel's first team for their 1957–58 season under manager Rudi Strittich. Werner Bopp
Werner Bopp (* 12 February 1924; † 22 October 2006) was a Swiss footballer who played nearly his entire career for FC Basel. He played mainly in the position as defender. Football career Between the years 1944 and 1960 Bopp played a total of 496 games for Basel scoring a total of 20 goals. 321 of these games were in the Nationalliga A, 43 in the Swiss Cup and 132 were friendly games. He scored 13 goal in the domestic league, two in the Swiss Cup and the other five were scored during the test games. In his first season Bopp played in three test games before he played his debut in domestic league game on 18 March 1945 against Lausanne Sports. FC Luzern
Fussball-Club Luzern (), or simply abbreviated to FCL, is a Swiss sports club based in Lucerne (german: Luzern). It is best known for its professional football team, which plays in the Super League, the top tier of the Swiss football league system, and has won the national title once and the national cup three times. Kurt Stettler (21 August 1932 – 8 December 2020) was a Swiss football goalkeeper who played for Switzerland in the 1962 FIFA World Cup. Werner Schley (born 25 January 1935 – 30 May 2007) was a Swiss footballer who played as a goalkeeper during the 1950s and 1960s. Schley was born in Basel and he died whilst he was in Mallorca, Spain. Football career Club career Schley played his youth football with Nordstern Basel and advanced to their first team in 1951. At that time they played in the Nationalliga B, the second tier of Swiss football. In that season Schley played between the posts in 16 of the 26 games, but could not save the team from suffering relegation. Schley then joined FC Basel for their 1952–53 season with club legend René Bader as player-manager. Hans Weber
Johann "Hans" Weber (8 September 1934 – 10 February 1965) was a Swiss football midfielder who played for Switzerland in the 1962 FIFA World Cup. He played 13 seasons for FC Basel and two seasons for Lausanne-Sport. Football career Weber played his youth football for Basel. In the season 1949–50 he was taken up by their first team. He played his first team debut on 24 September 1950, an away game at the Charmilles Stadium, Geneva, against Servette.
