1957 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship
The 1957 Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship was the 67th staging of the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Tipperary County Board in 1887. Thurles Sarsfields were the defending champions. On 15 September 1957, Thurles Sarsfields won the championship after a 4–15 to 4–04 defeat of Na Piarsaigh in the final at Cashel Sportsfield. It was their 20th championship title overall and their third title in succession. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. Larry Keane
Laurence Keane (1931 - 16 July 2017) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Thurles Sarsfields and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. Career Keane first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with Thurles Sarsfields. He subsequently progressed onto the club's senior team, with his career coinciding with an unprecedented era of success for the club. Between 1952 and 1963 Keane won nine Tipperary SHC titles, including one as team captain in 1957. He also won a Tipperary SFC with Thurles Crokes in 1960. Keane first played for Tipperary during a two-year tenure with the minor team. He won an All-Ireland MHC medal in 1949 after a defeat of Kilkenny in the final. Keane progressed to adult level and was a dual player at junior level. He joined the Tipperary senior hurling team during the team's successful National League campaign in 1954–55. Na Piarsaigh are a hurling and Gaelic football club based in the north side of Cork City, Ireland. History Formation In 1943 a group of idealistic young men drawn mostly from the hurling nursery of North Mon laid the foundations of Cumann Iomana & Peile Na Piarsaigh. The group had its first formal meeting in the presbytery of the North Cathedral. The young men called upon one of their teachers, Donnacha Ó Murchú, for guidance and assistance. This led to him becoming the first ''Uachtarán'' residentof the club, with Derry Terry serving as ''Runaí'' ecretaryand Paddy Sutton as ''Cisteoir'' reasurer In choosing a name for the club the members sought one which would reflect their aims and ideals. The Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the FBD Insurance Tipperary County Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Tipperary County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1887 for the top hurling teams in the county of Tipperary in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Semple Stadium in October. The prize for the winning team is the Dan Breen Cup. Initially played as a knock-out competition on a divisional basis, the championship currently features a group stage followed by a knock-out stage. Cashel King Cormacs GAA
Cashel King Cormacs GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in the town of Cashel, County Tipperary in Ireland. They play their games in Leahy Park, on the Clonmel Road in Cashel. The club is named for the king-bishop Cormac Mac Cárthaigh (d. 1138). Extensive work has been carried out in the last few years, with the addition of a new clubhouse and main stand the highlight.
