1957 Cork Senior Hurling Championship
The 1957 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 69th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The competition was held between 31 March and 15 September 1957. Blackrock were the defending champions, however, they were defeated by Glen Rovers in the second round. On 15 September 1957, Sarsfields won the championship following a 5–10 to 4–6 defeat of University College Cork in the final. It was their second championship title overall and their first title in six championship seasons. Paddy Barry was the championship's top scorer with 7–11. Sarsfields GAA (Cork)
Sarsfields GAA is a hurling club is based in the Riverstown and Glanmire area of County Cork. The club plays in the Imokilly division of Cork GAA. They have won six County Championships, 1951, 1957, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014. They have also won three Minor County Championships, 2007, 2008 and 2014. The club derives its name for the Irish Jacobite and soldier Patrick Sarsfield, 1st Earl of Lucan. County Championship history While the club reached a number of championship semi-finals prior to 1936, it wasn't until the 1936 Cork Senior Hurling Championship before the club contested their first final. Duhallow GAA is a Gaelic football and hurling division in the barony of Duhallow, County Cork, Ireland. This barony is situated in the northwest region of the county, and includes towns such as Kanturk, Millstreet, and Newmarket. It is one of eight divisions of Cork County Board. It organizes competitions for the clubs within the division, from Under 12 up to the adult level. The winners of these competitions compete against other divisional champions to determine which club is the county champion. The 1934 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 46th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. The draw for the opening round fixtures took place at the Cork Convention on 28 January 1934. The championship began on 25 March 1934 and ended on 7 October 1934. St. Finbarr's were the defending champions. Divisional side Seandún fielded a team in the championship for the first time. On 7 October 1934, Glen Rovers won the championship following a 3-2 to 0-6 defeat of St. Finbarr's in the final. The 1915 Cork Senior Hurling Championship was the 28th staging of the Cork Senior Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. Midleton were the defending champions. On 8 August 1915, Redmonds won the championship following a 4–01 to 0–01 defeat of Collegains in the final. Jackie Daly (hurler)
John F. "Jackie" Daly (1935 – 19 August 2005) was an Irish hurler who played at club level with Glen Rovers and at inter-county level with the Cork senior hurling team. He usually lined out as at midfield. Playing career Daly first made an impression as a hurler and Gaelic footballer in the local street leagues in Blackpool. He soon joined the Glen Rovers club and joined the senior team in 1956. In a 15-year club career he won seven Cork SHC titles. He was also a dual Munster Club Championship-winner and also won two Cork SFC titles with sister club St. Nicholas'. Daly had a brief inter-county career with the Cork senior hurling team. He was a reserve when Cork were beaten by Wexford in the 1956 All-Ireland final. Coaching career When Daly's club career with Glen Rovers ended in 1971, he remained involved as trainer of the team. Liam Dowling
Liam Dowling (25 January 1931 – 20 November 1996) was an Irish former hurler who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Dowling made his first appearance for the team during the 1952 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen at various intervals for much of the next decade. During that time he won two All-Ireland medals, two Munster medals and one National Hurling League medal. At club level Dowling is a county senior championship medalist with Sarsfields. He also played with Castlemartyr. Playing career Club Dowling began his club hurling career with his local Castlemartyr club. In 1951 he won his first county junior championship with the club following a 6-5 to 2-7 defeat of Cloughduv. Nicholas Christopher Michael Ring (30 October 1920 – 2 March 1979) was an Irish hurling, hurler whose National Hurling League, league and All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, championship career at senior level with the Cork county hurling team, Cork county team spanned twenty-four years from 1939 to 1963. Mardyke (UCC)
The Mardyke, also referred as the Mardyke Sports Ground, is the sport and fitness facilities used by sports team representing University College Cork, the general student body, and members of the public. It is based in the Cork district of Mardyke. UCC acquired the grounds in 1911, and rented the main pitch to rugby, soccer, hockey and hurling clubs in the city for a 15% cut of the gate receipts. Outdoors, there are floodlit grass and all-weather pitches, used for soccer, rugby, Gaelic games, and hockey. Kayakers train in the adjacent North channel of the River Lee. There is a tartan track for athletics, where the Cork City Sports are held annually.
