Frederick IX Of Denmark
Frederick IX ( da, Christian Frederik Franz Michael Carl Valdemar Georg; 11 March 1899 – 14 January 1972) was List of Danish monarchs, King of Denmark from 1947 to 1972. Born into the House of Glücksburg, Frederick was the elder son of Christian X of Denmark, King Christian X and Alexandrine of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. He became crown prince when his father succeeded as king in 1912. As a young man, he was educated at the Royal Danish Naval Academy. In 1935, he was married to Princess Ingrid of Sweden and they had three daughters, Margrethe II of Denmark, Margrethe, Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Benedikte and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Anne-Marie. Athletics At The 1900 Summer Olympics
At the 1900 Summer Olympics, twenty-three athletics events were contested. Altogether, 117 athletes from 15 nations competed. A total of 68 medals (23 gold, 23 silver, 22 bronze) were awarded. In many countries, due in part to the conflation of the Olympic Games and the World's Fair in Paris, the media discussed only the athletics events under the "Olympic" name while ignoring the incredible variety of other sports featured at the time. The 23 events listed are those currently considered to have been of Olympic stature by the International Olympic Committee and most Olympic historians. They exclude all events that used a handicap system, as well as all events which were open to professional athletes. The IOC has never decided which events were "Olympic" and which were not. Christian Christensen (athlete)
Christian August Christensen (6 August 1876 in Copenhagen – 5 December 1956 in Søllerød) was a Danish book printer and track and field athlete. He competed at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France. He was a member of Københavns Idræts Forening and served as the club's president from 1903-1905 and from 1916-1918. Viggo Hjalmar Wiehe (23 December 1874 - 30 November 1956) was a Danish stage and film actor whose career spanned over five decades. Career Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, he was the son of actor and opera singer Johan Henrik Wiehe and Fanny Wiehe (''née'' Petersen). He began his stage career as a dramatic actor under the tutelage of Karl Mantzius and Olaf Poulsen from 1897 to 1899 and later studied at the Danish Royal Theatre. He made his stage debut at the Folketeatret (People's Theatre) in a production by writer Herman Bang in 1899. He was then engaged at Oddgeir Stephensen's theater company, and from 1922 to 1923 at the Odense Folketeater, Odense Theatre, and then among other theatres throughout Denmark such as the Dagmar Theatre, Casino Theatre and Det ny Teater (The New Theatre) in Copenhagen. Estrid Hein
Estrid Hein (''née'' Hansen; 27 July 1873 – 25 July 1956) was a Danish ophthalmologist, women's rights activist and pacifist. She practised in Copenhagen from 1898, opening her own clinic in 1906. She was also a prominent figure in the women's movement, chairing the Copenhagen chapter of the Danish Women's Society (''Dansk Kvindesamfund'') from 1909, later serving on the society's central board. In 1915, she became an active member of Danske Kvinders Fredskæde (DKF), the Danish arm of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. The same year she joined the Scandinavian Family Law Commission where she was effective in furthering progress on women rights as spouses. Symbolism was a late 19th-century art movement of French art, French and Art of Belgium, Belgian origin in poetry and other arts seeking to represent absolute truths symbolically through language and metaphorical images, mainly as a reaction against Naturalism (literature), naturalism and Realism (arts), realism. In literature, the style originates with the 1857 publication of Charles Baudelaire's ''Les Fleurs du mal''. Ejnar Nielsen
Ejnar Nielsen (9 July 1872 – 21 July 1956) was a Danish painter and illustrator, who was a central proponent of Symbolist painting in Danish art. He is also known for his large mosaic on Stærekassen, an extension to the Royal Danish Theatre on Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. He was a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1920 to 1930 and received the Academy's Eckersberg Medal in 1908 and its Thorvaldsen Medal in 1913. He was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts between 1889 and 93 and at Zahrtmann's Painting School from 1895 to 1896. in 1894 he travelled to Gjern in central Jutland where he painted the people and undulating landscapes.
