Marilynn Smith
Marilynn Louise Smith (April 13, 1929 – April 9, 2019) was an American professional golfer. She was one of the thirteen founders of the LPGA in 1950. She won two major championships and 21 LPGA Tour events in all. She is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Amateur career Smith was born in Topeka, Kansas. She started playing golf at age 12. She was a three-time winner of the Kansas State Amateur from 1946-48. She won the 1949 national individual intercollegiate golf championship while attending the University of Kansas. Professional career Smith turned pro in 1949 and joined the Spalding staff. She was one of the thirteen women who founded the LPGA in 1950. She won her first tournament in 1952 at the Fort Wayne Open. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Alice Bauer
Alice Bauer (October 6, 1927 – March 6, 2002) was an American golfer. One of the founders of the LPGA, she played professionally and finished as high as 14th on the LPGA Tour money list, in 1956. Bauer had several top-10 finishes in major championships, including fourth place in the 1958 U.S. Women's Open. Biography Bauer was born in Eureka, South Dakota and took up golf; her father was a course owner. Her sister, Marlene, had already been playing golf by the time Bauer was approximately 10 years old, and according to Marlene, Alice followed once she saw her sister gaining attention from locals. When she was 11 years old, Alice began devoting time to golf. At the age of 14, she won the South Dakota amateur championship in 1942, becoming the youngest winner of the event. After her family relocated to California, Bauer became the 1949 Southern Cal Amateur winner, and posted other victories in the state. Anne Quast
Anne Quast (born August 31, 1937) is an American amateur golfer. She won the U.S. Women's Amateur three times (1958, 1961, 1963) and was runner-up three times (1965, 1968, 1973). She was married several times and played as Anne Decker, Anne Welts, and Anne Sander. Career Quast was born in Everett, Washington. Her parents owned the Cedarcrest Golf Course in Marysville, Washington, and by age 12 she had played in her first tournament. She won the Washington State Junior Girls Championship in 1952 and 1954 then again in 1955, when she also won her state's Women's championship. She repeated as the Washington State Women's champion in 1956. The Women's Western Open was an American professional golf tournament founded in 1930. The LPGA was established in 1950, and it recognized the Western Open as one of its major championships through 1967. All of the events back to 1930 have been designated as majors by the LPGA. Mary Ruth Jessen (November 12, 1936 – September 21, 2007) was an American professional golfer. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1956 and won 11 LPGA Tour victories in all. Amateur career Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Jessen grew up in the northeast part of the city, a half block from the Meadowbrook golf course (1928–1960), now Nathan Hale High School and Meadowbrook Playfield. She also played at Jackson Park and was a junior member at Inglewood Golf Club in Kenmore. Jessen was a three-time winner of the Seattle City Championship from 1953 to 1955.
