1955–56 In Belgian Football
The 1955–56 season was the 53rd season of competitive football in Belgium. RSC Anderlechtois won their 7th Division I title. This was also their third consecutive title, for the second time. RSC Anderlechtois also entered the first European Champion Clubs' Cup as Belgian champion. Joseph Mermans
Joseph Mermans (16 February 1922 in Merksem – 20 January 1996 in Wildert), usually referred to as Jef Mermans (nicknamed "The Bomber") was a football striker from Belgium, who played much of his career at Anderlecht, with whom he won seven Belgian Championship titles and finished top scorer of this competition three times. He played 399 games and scored 367 goals in first division. Mermans played 56 matches with the Belgium national football team, 2 of which in the 1954 FIFA World Cup. He is also the 4th top scorer ever for the Belgium national team with 27 goals. Hippolyte Van Den Bosch
Hypoliet Geraard van den Bosch (30 April 1926 – 1 December 2011), nicknamed Poly, was a Belgian football player who finished top scorer of the Belgian League in 1954 while playing for R.S.C. Anderlecht. He played 8 times with the Belgium national team between 1953 and 1957. Jean Jadot
Jean Jadot (23 November 1909 – 21 January 2009) was a Belgian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as apostolic delegate to the United States (the first non-Italian to do so) from 1973 to 1980, and President of the Secretariat for Non-Christians from 1980 to 1984. Biography Jean Jadot was born in Brussels. He was born to a well-known aristocratic family, and his father, Lambert, was a noted electrical engineer who worked around the world, including China and the Congo. In 1926, he entered the Catholic University of Leuven, from where he obtained his doctorate in philosophy ''magna cum laude'' in 1930. His thesis was on the work of Alfred Edward Taylor.
