The 1954–55 Czechoslovak Extraliga season was the 12th season of the Czechoslovak Extraliga, the top level of ice hockey in Czechoslovakia. 16 teams participated in the league, and Rudá Hvězda Brno won the championship. The Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League was the elite ice hockey league in Czechoslovakia from 1936 until 1993, when the country split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Slovak Extraliga and Czech Extraliga formed from the split. History The most successful team in the number of titles was HC Dukla Jihlava with 12 titles. Walter Aircraft Engines is an aircraft engine manufacturer and former automotive manufacturer. Its notable products include the M601 turboprop. The company is based in Prague, Czech Republic. It has been a subsidiary of GE Aviation since July 2008. History Josef Walter founded the company in 1911 to make motorcycles and motor tricycles. It started to make automobiles in 1913: initially its own models, and later the Fiat 508, 514, 522 and 524 under licence. By 1926 Walter was Czechoslovakia's fourth-largest car maker by sales volume. In 1929 it still held fourth place, and production peaked at 1,498 cars for the year. By 1932 Walter production had slumped to 217 cars for the year. The figure recovered to 474 in 1933, but fell again to 102 in 1936 and to only 13 in 1937. Walter ceased car production in 1954. HK Poprad
HK Poprad is a professional ice hockey team in the Slovak Extraliga, the top ice hockey league in Slovakia. It plays its games in Poprad, Slovakia. The squad's greatest success was 2nd place in the Slovak Extraliga in 2006, 2011 and 2021. The club is nicknamed ''Kamzíci'', which means "Chamois" in English. History After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, Poprad started playing in the new independent Slovak Championship which was named the Slovak Extraliga. In the 1996–97 season Poprad was eliminated in the semifinals by HC Košice. In the next season 1997–98, they played semifinals again against HC Košice and lost 0–3. However, these two seasons were successful because the team won bronze medals. HC Slavia Praha (eng: HC Slavia Prague) is a Czech ice hockey team located in Prague playing the Czech 1st National Hockey League, the second-highest league in the country. Hockey Club Slovan Bratislava ( sk, Hokejový klub Slovan Bratislava) is a professional ice hockey club based in Bratislava, Slovakia. LTC (Lawn Tennis Club) Praha was a Czech ice hockey club founded in 1903 in Prague. The main sport in this club was originally tennis, with hockey being a minor sport; hockey at the time rather meaning bandy. HC ATK (Armádní tělovýchovný klub) Praha, founded in 1948, was an ice hockey team in Czechoslovakia. It won the Czechoslovak First Ice Hockey League title in the 1949–50 season and played in the league for a total of eight seasons. The club also celebrated second and third placed league finishes.
