The 1954 Campeonato Paulista da Primeira Divisão, organized by the Federação Paulista de Futebol, was the 53rd season of São Paulo's top professional football league. Corinthians won the title for the 15th time. Juventus and Ypiranga were relegated and the top scorer was Palmeiras's Humberto Tozzi with 36 goals. Championship The championship was disputed in a double-round robin system, with the team with the most points winning the title and the two teams with the fewest points being relegated. In that season, São Bento de São Caetano entered the championship, that team being the product of a merge between Comercial and São Caetano EC. The Campeonato Paulista Série A1, commonly known as Campeonato Paulista, nicknamed Paulistão, is the top-flight professional association football, football league in the Brazilian States of Brazil, state of São Paulo (state), São Paulo. Augusto Vieira de Oliveira (4 June 1930 – 26 August 2004), commonly known as Tite, was a Brazilian footballer who played as a left winger. Tite had his playing career mainly associated with Santos, being a part of the ''Os Santásticos'' team. Club career Born in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, Tite began his career with the amateur sides of hometown club Goytacaz. In 1947 he moved to Fluminense, but after seeing little chances of playing in the first team due to the presence of Telê Santana, he joined Santos in 1951. After making his debut at the club in May 1951, Tite became a regular starter for ''Peixe'' before the breakthrough of Pepe, who played in the same position. He signed with Corinthians in 1958, but returned to Santos in 1960, being a part of the ''Os Santásticos'' team and winning several trophies before his retirement in 1963. Gino Orlando, sometimes known as just Gino (September 3, 1929 – April 24, 2003), was an association footballer who played forward for the Brazil national team. Career Born in São Paulo, Gino Orlando started his career defending Palmeiras between 1948 and 1951.
