1953 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1953 Individual Speedway World Championship was the eighth edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. Welshman Freddie Williams became the second rider to win a second title in front of a 90,000 attendance at Wembley Stadium. Williams won 4 of his 5 races, only dropping one point in heat 13 to Jeff Lloyd. Geoff Mardon defeated Olle Nygren in the bronze medal ride off. Dan Forsberg
Dan Forsberg (born 25 March 1934) is a former international motorcycle speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Forsberg was a leading speedway rider in the late 1950s. He reached the final of the Speedway World Championship on two occasions, in the 1952 Individual Speedway World Championship and the 1957 Individual Speedway World Championship. Individual Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, this official FIM championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a big final of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end. Bert Lindarw (1930–2020) was an international speedway rider from Sweden. Speedway career Lindarw was twice a finalist at the Individual Speedway Long Track World Championship in 1957 and 1961. Friedrich "Fritz" Dirtl (1928–1956) was an international speedway rider from Austria. Speedway career Dirtl was a two times champion of Austria after winning the Austrian Individual Speedway Championship in 1949 and 1951. He was also a six times Longtrack champion of Austria. Dirtl was tragically killed competing in the 1956 Individual Speedway World Championship, at the Continental final stage. He was involved in a crash with fellow Austrian rider Josef Kamper and then fell into the path of Mieczysław Połukard. Kumla
Kumla is a locality and the seat of Kumla Municipality, Örebro County, Sweden with a population of 21,640 as of 2018. Geography Kumla is situated roughly 15 kilometres south of neighbouring city Örebro, and is connected to its much larger neighbour with train and bus commuting. Kumla is unusual in terms of municipality seats in Svealand in that there is no connection to any kind of waterway in the centre of the town.
