NBA All-Star Game
The National Basketball Association All-Star Game is a basketball exhibition game hosted every February by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and showcases 24 of the league's star players. It is the featured event of NBA All-Star Weekend, a three-day event which goes from Friday to Sunday. The All-Star Game was first played at the Boston Garden on March 2, 1951. The starting lineup for each squad is selected by a combination of fan, player, and media voting, while head coaches choose the reserves, seven players from their respective conferences, so each side has a 12-man roster. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players. If a selected player cannot participate because of injury, the NBA commissioner selects a replacement. Joseph Franklin "Jumping Joe" Fulks (October 26, 1921 – March 21, 1976) was an American professional basketball player, sometimes called "the first of the high-scoring forwards". He was posthumously enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978. Early life Fulks was born in Birmingham, Kentucky, a small town in the state's far-western Purchase region that was inundated in the 1940s after the Tennessee Valley Authority dammed the Tennessee River to create Kentucky Lake. He played college ball at Murray State University (then known as Murray State Teachers College) for two years before leaving school to join the Marines in May 1942. Don Lofgran
Donald James Lofgran (November 18, 1928 – June 17, 1976) was an American basketball player who was a consensus All-American in 1950 while at the University of San Francisco. He also played professionally in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1950 to 1954. Lofgran, a native of Oakland, California and 1946 graduate of Oakland Technical High School, spent the first two years of college (1946–48) at Grant Technical College, a junior college in Sacramento California (now American River College). He graduated Grant Tech and enrolled at the University of San Francisco to play for the Dons basketball team. While at USF, Lofgran averaged approximately 15 points per game for his career. In his junior season of 1948–49, Lofgran led the Dons to a 48–47 win over Loyola (IL) in the 1949 National Invitation Tournament and was named the Most Valuable Player.
