The Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) was a college athletic conference that existed from 1908 to 1970 in the United States. At one time the Illinois Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, or IIAC, was a robust league that claimed most of the Illinois institutions of higher education. It was nicknamed the "Little Nineteen," but in 1928 had a membership of 23 schools. Former Illinois State University track coach Joseph Cogdal, associated with the IIAC for 43 years of its 62-year history, noted that the league had roots in the 1870s when a number of schools banded together for oratorical contests. Their first intercollegiate football game was played in 1881 between Illinois State University and Knox College, and by 1894 a football association was established. The 1952 Central Michigan Chippewas football team represented Central Michigan College of Education, renamed Central Michigan University in 1959, in the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) during the 1952 college football season. In their second season under head coach Kenneth Kelly, the Chippewas compiled a 7–2 record (6–0 against IIAC opponents), won the IIAC championship, and outscored all opponents by a combined total of 285 to 85. The team's statistical leaders included quarterback Don Koleber with 417 passing yards, fullback Vern Hawes with 540 rushing yards, and Al Droth with 302 receiving yards. Guard Loren Dietrich received the team's most valuable player award. The 1952 Michigan State Normal Hurons football team represented Michigan State Normal College (renamed Eastern Michigan College in 1956 and Eastern Michigan University in 1959) in the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) during the 1952 college football season. In their first season under head coach Fred Trosko, the Hurons compiled a 5–3–1 record (3–2–1 against IIAC opponents), finished in third place in the IIAC, and outscored their opponents, 154 to 146. The team was rated as the best team fielded by the school since 1945. Lineman Christopher J. Armelagos was the team captain. He was also voted as the team's most valuable player.
