Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc. ( ) was an American animation studio and production company which was active from 1957 to 2001. It was founded on July 7, 1957, by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera following the decision of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer to close its in-house cartoon studio. Headquartered in Cahuenga Blvd. until 1998 and then Sherman Oaks, both in Los Angeles, California, until going defunct, it created many television shows, theatrical films, televised movies and specials, including ''Huckleberry Hound'', ''Quick Draw McGraw'', ''The Flintstones'', ''Yogi Bear'', ''The Jetsons'', ''Jonny Quest'', ''Wacky Races'', ''Scooby-Doo'' and ''The Smurfs''. Rabbit Fire
''Rabbit Fire'' is a 1951 ''Looney Tunes'' cartoon starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd. Directed by Chuck Jones and written by Michael Maltese, the cartoon is the first in Jones' "hunting trilogy"—the other two cartoons following it being ''Rabbit Seasoning'' and ''Duck! Rabbit, Duck!'' It is also the first cartoon to feature a feud between Bugs and Daffy. Produced by Edward Selzer for Warner Bros. Cartoons, Inc., the short was released to theaters on May 19, 1951 by Warner Bros. Pictures and is often considered among Jones' best and most important films. Duck And Cover (film)
''Duck and Cover'' is a 1952 civil defense animated live-action social guidance film that is often popularly mischaracterized as propaganda. With similar themes to the more adult oriented civil defense training films, the film was widely distributed to United States schoolchildren in the 1950s. It instructionally teaches students on what to do in the event of a nuclear explosion. The film was funded by the US Federal Civil Defense Administration and released in January 1952. At the time, the Soviet Union was engaged in nuclear testing and the US was in the midst of the Korean War. The film was written by Raymond J. Mauer, directed by Anthony Rizzo of Archer Productions, narrated by actor Robert Middleton, and made with the help of schoolchildren from New York City and Astoria, New York. Hamilton Luske
Hamilton Somers Luske (October 16, 1903 – February 19, 1968) was an American animator and film director. Career He joined the Walt Disney Productions animation studio in 1931 and he was soon trusted enough by Walt Disney to be made supervising animator of the first Disney Princess character, Snow White in ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. He was also an animator on the 1938 short film ''Ferdinand the Bull''. He directed many Disney films and animated shorts from 1936 until his death in 1968. In 1965, he won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for directing the animated sequence in the Julie Andrews musical, ''Mary Poppins'' (1964). He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 16, 1903, and died in Bel Air, California, on February 19, 1968, at age 64. Wilfred Jackson
Wilfred Jackson (January 24, 1906 – August 7, 1988) was an American animator, arranger, composer and director best known for his work on the ''Mickey Mouse'' and ''Silly Symphonies'' series of cartoons and the ''Night on Bald Mountain''/''Ave Maria'' segment of ''Fantasia'' from Walt Disney Productions. He was also instrumental in developing the system with which Disney added music and sound to ''Steamboat Willie'', the first ''Mickey Mouse'' cartoon. Several of the ''Silly Symphony'' shorts he directed, including ''The Old Mill'' (1937), won Academy Awards during the 1930s. Starting with ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'' in 1937, he directed sequences in many of the major Disney animated features up to ''Lady and the Tramp'' in 1955, including all of the animated sequences in ''Song of the South'' (1946). Clyde Geronimi
Clito "Clyde" Geronimi (June 12, 1901 – April 24, 1989), known as Gerry, was an American animation director. He is best known for his work at Walt Disney Productions. Biography Geronimi was born in Chiavenna, Italy, immigrating to the United States as a young child. Geronimi's earliest work in the animation field was for the J.R. Bray Studios, where he worked with Walter Lantz. Upon the dissolution of the Bray Studio in 1928, Geronimi followed Lantz to his own studio, Walter Lantz Productions, producing Cartoons for Universal Pictures. Geronimi left Lantz in 1931 to join Walt Disney Productions, where he remained until 1959. Geronimi started off in the shorts department as an animator, eventually becoming a director. His 1941 short, ''Lend a Paw'', won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Stereotypes of African Americans are misleading beliefs about the culture of people of African descent who reside in the United States, largely connected to the racism and discrimination which African Americans are subjected to. These beliefs date back to the slavery of black people during the colonial era and they have evolved within American society. The first major displays of stereotypes of African Americans were minstrel shows, beginning in the nineteenth century, they used White actors who were dressed in blackface and attire which was supposedly worn by African-Americans in order to lampoon and disparage blacks. Some nineteenth century stereotypes, such as the sambo, are now considered to be derogatory and racist. The "Mandingo" and "Jezebel" stereotypes sexualizes African-Americans as hypersexual. Of these, 162 are theatrical shorts, one is a made-for-TV short, and one is a 2-minute sketch shown as part of a telethon. 1940–58: Hanna-Barbera/MGM Cartoons The following 114 cartoons were directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer cartoon studio in Hollywood, California. All cartoons were released to theaters by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Rudolf Ising was the producer of ''Puss Gets the Boot''; subsequent cartoons were produced by Fred Quimby through 1955. ''Symphony in Slang'' is a 1951 cartoon short directed by Tex Avery, written by Rich Hogan and released with the feature film ''No Questions Asked'' by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Minimalist and abstract in style (many of the "gags" are created either with single, still frames or limited animation), it tells the story of a man (voiced by radio actor John Brown of '' My Friend Irma'' and '' The Life of Riley'' fame), who finds himself at the Pearly Gates explaining the story of his life to a bewildered Saint Peter and Noah Webster (also Brown) using slang of that era.
