1951 Soccer Bowl
The 1951 Soccer Bowl was the second edition of the Soccer Bowl (1950–1952), Soccer Bowl, the post-season college soccer championship game between the 1950 Penn State Nittany Lions men's soccer team, Penn State Nittany Lions and the Purdue Boilermakers, Purdue held on January 1, 1951, at the Sportsman's Park in St. Louis, St. Louis, Missouri. The match ended in a 3–1 victory with Penn State claiming their second Soccer Bowl, and their 11th claimed national men's soccer championship. The game was used to determine the champion of the 1950 Intercollegiate Soccer Football Association, ISFA season, which predated the National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA as the premier organizing body of collegiate soccer, and represented the concluding game of the season for both teams. The team is a member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Penn State's intercollegiate soccer program began in 1911 and has won or shared 11 national championships and 6 conference tournament championships. Soccer Bowl (1950–52)
The Soccer Bowl was the annual championship game of the North American Soccer League (NASL), which ran from 1968 to 1984. The two top teams from the playoffs faced off in the final to determine the winner of the NASL Trophy. From the league's founding in 1968 through 1974, the championship game (or series, as it was played through 1971) was known as the NASL Championship Final, and in 1984 the single game was replaced by a best-of-three series known as the Soccer Bowl Series. Clarence Harold Henry Buss (19 February 1913 – 6 December 1974) was an English cricketer. Buss was a left-handed batsman who bowled slow left-arm orthodox. He was born at Weybridge, Surrey. He was more commonly known as Sam Buss in scorecards. Buss made a single first-class appearance for Surrey against Oxford University in 1934 at The Oval. Surrey won the toss and elected to bat first, making 483 all out, with Buss scoring 42 runs before he was dismissed by Richard Tindall. Oxford University then made 305 all out in their first-innings, with Buss taking the wickets of Gerry Chalk and Tindall, finishing the innings with figures of 2/90.
