1951 Morris Harvey Golden Eagles Football Team
The 1951 Morris Harvey Golden Eagles football team represented the Morris Harvey College—now known as the University of Charleston as a member of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) during the 1951 college football season. Led by sixth-year head coach Eddie King, the Golden Eagles compiled an overall record of 6–3–1 with a mark of 4–0 in conference play, winning the WVIAC title. Morris Harvey was invited to the Burley Bowl, where the Golden Eagles defeated . The team played home games at Laidley Field in Charleston, West Virginia. West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
The West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) was a collegiate athletic conference which historically operated exclusively in the state of West Virginia, but briefly had one Kentucky member in its early years, and expanded into Pennsylvania in its final years. It participated in the Division II ranks of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), originally affiliated in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) until 1994, but held its final athletic competitions in spring 2013, and officially disbanded on September 1 of that year. Its football-playing members announced in June 2012 that they planned to withdraw to form a new Division II conference effective at the end of the 2012–13 season; this led to a chain of conference moves that saw all but one of the WVIAC's members find new conference homes. Memorial Stadium (Kent State)
Memorial Stadium was a multi-purpose stadium in Kent, Ohio, United States, on the campus of Kent State University. Its primary use was as the home field for the Kent State Golden Flashes football team and also served as the home venue for the KSU men's track and field team. The football and track teams had already been playing on the site since 1941, but with temporary bleachers for seating. The permanent grandstand built and dedicated in 1950, which also included a press box, was the first phase of the stadium, and was later followed by a duplicate grandstand on the opposite side of the field in 1954. Initial plans called for the seating to eventually surround the field, though these plans were largely never realized. During the 1960s, additional bleacher seats were added separate from the two main grandstands on all sides of the field, and brought seating capacity to approximately 20,000 by 1965.
