1951 Laotian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Laos on 18 August 1951 to elect members of the National Assembly, the lower chamber of Parliament. Unlike previous elections, which had been held on a non-partisan basis,Nohlen et al., p137 this one saw political parties compete for the first time. The result was a victory for the National Progressive Party, which won 19 of the 39 seats. Laos (, ''Lāo'' )), officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic ( Lao: ສາທາລະນະລັດ ປະຊາທິປະໄຕ ປະຊາຊົນລາວ, French: République démocratique populaire lao), is a socialist state and the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia. The Independent Party ( lo, ພັກເສຣີ, Phak Seri) was a political party in Laos.
