Laurie Hughes
Laurie Hughes (2 March 1924 – 9 September 2011) was a footballer who played as a centre half for Liverpool. He made three appearances for the England national team. Life and playing career Born in 12 Gleave Street, Everton, Liverpool, England, Hughes was a strong, uncompromising centre half, who could also play wing half; he had the knack of being able to read the game-stopping moves before they caused too many problems. Hughes signed for Liverpool in 1943 from Tranmere where he was a trainee; however, it was not until 5 January 1946 that he made his debut in a 2–0 FA Cup 3rd round 1st leg victory at Sealand Road, Chester, his only goal did not come until 8 December 1951 in a league game at Anfield against Preston, Hughes' 88th-minute strike saving a point in the 2–2 draw. Cyril Done
Cyril Charles Done (21 October 1920 – 24 February 1993) was an English footballer. A "strong centre-forward", he scored 127 goals in 232 league appearances in the Football League. He began his career at Liverpool just before the outbreak of World War II, and was a prolific goalscorer at Anfield throughout the war. After the war he helped the "Reds" to the First Division title in 1946–47, before falling out of the first team picture until his departure to Tranmere Rovers in May 1952. He hit 61 goals in 87 league appearances at Prenton Park, before he moved to Port Vale in December 1954. He hit four goals against Liverpool and hit 34 goals in 52 league games, before switching to non-league Winsford United in May 1957. He later served Skelmersdale United as player-manager from 1959 to 1962. Kevin Baron (footballer)
Kevin Baron (19 July 1926 – 5 June 1971) was a professional footballer who played for Liverpool in the post-war years. Life and playing career Born at Preston, Lancashire, England, Baron played as an amateur for hometown club Preston before he was signed for Liverpool by George Kay in August 1945. He made his debut on 5 January 1946 in Liverpool's first competitive game after the conclusion of World War II; it was an FA Cup 3rd round 1st leg match at Sealand Road Chester, and was a debut to remember for Baron. Not only did the Reds beat Chester City 2–0, Baron made his debut alongside Liverpool legend Billy Liddell. Baron's first goal came on 8 November 1947 in a league match at Anfield. Jack Balmer
John Balmer (6 February 1916 — 25 December 1984) was an English footballer who played as a striker for English club Liverpool. Life and playing career Born in West Derby, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Balmer played for Collegiate Old Boys and Everton, where he was an amateur, before he was signed by Liverpool manager George Patterson who gave him his first professional contract on 23 August 1935. The 19-year-old made his debut on 21 September 1935 at Elland Road against Leeds in a 1st Division match, however, it wasn't a successful match as Liverpool lost 1–0. His first goal came on 7 December the same year in a league game at Anfield, the 81st-minute strike turned out to be the winner in a 2–1 victory over Preston. Robert Bryan Williams (4 October 1927 – April 2019) was an English footballer who played as a midfielder for Liverpool in the Football League. He was born in Liverpool in October 1927. Williams played for amateur side South Liverpool before he signed for Liverpool in 1949. Ken Brierley (3 April 1926 – February 2004) was an English professional footballer who played as a midfielder for Liverpool in The Football League. Playing career Brierley joined Oldham Athletic from Range Boilers in 1946 and went on to make 58 league appearances before he signed for Liverpool. He signed for Liverpool in February 1948, and made 10 appearances during the remainder of the 1947–48 season.Managers Mossley A.F.C. Phil Taylor (footballer, Born 1917)
Philip Henry Taylor (18 September 1917 – 1 December 2012) was an English footballer who played for and managed Liverpool. Player Taylor played for his hometown club Bristol Rovers as an apprentice (in 21 league matches, scoring twice) before he was signed by Liverpool manager George Patterson for £5000 plus Ted Hartill in March 1936, he made his debut on the 28th of the same month in a league game at the Baseball Ground, Liverpool shared the points with Derby County in a 2–2 draw with Taylor scoring a late equaliser, his first goal for the club. Taylor joined Liverpool as a young inside-forward with a lot of potential, but was reverted by George Kay to wing-half in which position he developed into a stylish, composed defender. Eddie Spicer
Edwin "Eddie" "Ted" Spicer (20 September 1922 – 25 December 2004) was a professional English footballer who played for Liverpool. His parents were George Stephen Spicer (1894-1956) and Ethel Anne Warren (1900-1981). He was married to Norma Anne Roberts (1926-2002). They were married in March 1946 in Wrexham and they had two children. Career Born in Liverpool, England, the 17-year-old Spicer signed professional forms for Liverpool in October 1939 after impressing manager George Kay. Like so many professional players, Spicer's career was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War, due to this Eddie's 'official' debut was seven years after he first signed. Bill Shepherd (25 September 1920 – January 1983) was an English professional footballer, who played as a full-back for Liverpool in the Football League.
