1949–50 DDR-Oberliga
The 1949–50 DDR-Oberliga, playing as the DS-Liga in its first season as the ''DDR'', the German Democratic Republic was only formed after the start of the season, was the inaugural season of the DDR-Oberliga, the first tier of East German football league system, league football in East Germany. The league was contested by 14 teams and FSV Zwickau, ZSG Horch Zwickau won the championship. It was the second and last East German championship for Zwickau, having previously won the 1948 edition under the name of SG Planitz. Heinz Satrapa of FSV Zwickau, ZSG Horch Zwickau was the league's top scorer with 23 goals. Table The 1949–50 season was the inaugural season of the league. FC Sachsen Leipzig
FC Sachsen Leipzig was a German football club from the Leutzsch district of Leipzig, Saxony. The club continued the traditions of BSG Chemie Leipzig. The club officially dissolved in 2011. Although several successor sides were established, only one survived, the BSG Chemie Leipzig. The name ''Sachsen Leipzig'' was revived in 2014 by amateur football club LFV Sachsen Leipzig. FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt is a German association football club based in Erfurt, Thuringia. History Foundation to World War II The club has roots that go back to a cricket club founded in 1895. The DDR-Liga (English: GDR League or ''East German League'') was, prior to German reunification in 1990, the second level of football competition in the DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik or German Democratic Republic, commonly East Germany), being roughly equivalent to the 2. Bundesliga in West Germany. Overview 1950-1955 The league was established with two divisions of ten teams each in 1950 as the level of play below the DDR-Oberliga, and as such was the second tier of the East German football league system.
