Jordan League
The Jordanian Pro League ( ar, الدوري الأردني للمحترفين) is a Jordanian professional league for men's football clubs and represents the top flight of Jordanian football. The championship consists of twelve competing teams in a home and away league system. The league not held in the years : 1948, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1967, 1968, 1969, and not finished in the 1998 in 2002 the league change calendar to a fall spring season. In 2020 the league return to a spring fall season. Competition format Competition There are 12 clubs in the Premier League. During the course of a season (from March to October) each club plays the others twice (a double round-robin system), once at their home stadium and once at that of their opponents', for 22 games. Teams receive three points for a win and one point for a draw. No points are awarded for a loss. Teams are ranked by total points, then goal difference, and then goals scored. Al-Ahli Sports Club ( ar, النادي الأهلي الرياضي الأردني), is one of the oldest clubs in Jordan based in Amman, established in 1944 by a group of pioneers who helped in setting the groundwork of sport, social, and cultural life in Jordan. History The club was founded in 1944 under the Circassians name Koban club. The name (Al Ahli) was honorably given by the late King Abdullah Bin al Hussein I. Stadium Al-Ahli plays their home games at Amman International Stadium in Amman. The stadium was built on 1964 and opened on 1968, it is owned by The Jordanian government and operated by The higher council of youth. It is also the home stadium of Jordan national football team, Al-Jazeera and Al-Faisaly. It has a current capacity of 17,619 spectators. The Jordan Football Association ( ar, الاتحاد الأردني لكرة القدم) is the governing body for association football, football in Jordan. The JFA was awarded best association of the AFC in 2013. History Tournaments Jordan is known to be the Dark Horse of Asian Football, They were one play-off away from reaching the 2014 FIFA World Cup, they lost to Uruguay in a two-legged play-off. The most recent tournament they played was the 2019 AFC Asian Cup where they lost to Vietnam on Penalties in the Round of 16. The farthest Jordan got in the AFC Asian Cup was in 2004 and 2011, reaching the quarter-finals both times as they were paired with Asian Powerhouses such as Japan & South Korea, however, as an underdog they exceeded expectations and made it past the group stages. In 2015 they lost in the group stage for the first and only time. Jordan has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup and the first AFC Asian Cup they played in was in 2004. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world.
