Calgary Stampeders
The Calgary Stampeders are a professional Canadian football team based in Calgary, Alberta. The Stampeders compete in the West Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The club plays its home games at McMahon Stadium and are the third-oldest active franchise in the CFL. The Stampeders were officially founded in 1945, although there were clubs operating in Calgary since the 1890s. The Calgary Stampeders have won eight Grey Cups, most recently in 2018, from their appearances in 17 Grey Cup Championship games. Robert William Paffrath (July 3, 1918 – May 21, 2005) was an American former professional football player who was a halfback. Ralph Toohy
Ralph Toohy (October 6, 1926 – July 19, 1998) was a Grey Cup champion and all-star Canadian Football League player. He played offensive and defensive end. Toohy played football with Loyola High School, and later attended Colorado College. He began his pro career in 1947 with the Montreal Alouettes and was part of the Larks first Grey Cup championship. He played 59 games for the Als over 5 seasons and was selected as an all-star in 1948, '49 and '50. Robert Hood (born 1965 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American electronic music producer and DJ. He is a founding member of the group Underground Resistance as a 'Minister of Information' with Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills. He is often considered to be one of the founders of minimal techno. Royal Copeland (October 12, 1924 – August 8, 2011) was a Canadian football running back who played at the elite level from 1943 to 1956. Copeland won four Grey Cups with the Toronto Argonauts. Along with Joe Krol they were known as the ''Gold Dust Twins''. Copeland is the only player to score a touchdown in three consecutive Grey Cup games: 1945, 1946, and 1947. Frank Joseph Filchock (October 8, 1916 – June 20, 1994) was an American gridiron football player and coach. As a consequence of a famous scandal regarding the 1946 NFL Championship Game, he was suspended by the National Football League (NFL) from 1947 to 1950 for associating with gamblers. Early career Born in 1916 in the small Pennsylvania mining town of Crucible, Filchock was a star player at Redstone Township High School and later at Indiana University. After graduating from university, he became the second pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates (now the Pittsburgh Steelers) in the second round of the 1938 NFL draft. The Pirates' first first-round draft choice that year was Byron (Whizzer) White of Colorado, who later became a U.S. Supreme Court judge.
