Poland Ekstraklasa (), meaning "Extra Class" in Polish, named PKO Ekstraklasa since the 2019–20 season due to its sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is the top Polish professional league for men's association football teams. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the Ekstraklasa qualifies for the Polish SuperCup. The league is now operated by the Ekstraklasa Spółka Akcyjna. The Ekstraklasa (former I liga) was officially formed as Liga Polska on 4–5 December 1926 in Warsaw, since 1 March 1927 as Liga Piłki Nożnej (), but the Polish Football Association (Polish: Polski Związek Piłki Nożnej, PZPN) had been in existence since 20 December 1919, a year after the independence of Poland in 1918. Marian Łącz
Marian Mikołaj Łącz (5 December 1921 - 2 August 1984) was a former Polish international footballer who played as a forward, and later a theater and film actor. Football Born in Rzeszów, Łącz started his footballing career with his local team Resovia Rzeszów. The outbreak of World War 2 put his footballing career on hold until 1944, when he started playing for Sokół Rzeszów with his brother, Tadeusz. In 1946 he moved to Gdańsk to play for Lechia Gdańsk. He made his Lechia debut on 9 September 1945 against WKS 16 Dyw. Gdańsk in a 9–1 win. While being Łącz's first game for the club, it was also the club's first ever competitive game. He spent 6 months with Lechia, during which time he made 10 appearances and scored 25 goals, scoring six hat-trick in his 10 games and finishing as the club's top scorer for the season. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. History This enterprise, according to its founders, was created in January 1994 by three regulars of the Rec.Sport.Soccer (RSS) Usenet newsgroup: Lars Aarhus, Kent Hedlundh, and Karel Stokkermans. It was originally known as the "North European Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation", but the geographical reference was dropped as its membership from other regions grew. Stanisław Różankowski
Stanisław Różankowski (25 January 1925 in Myślenice – 1 July 2004 in Kraków) was a football player and one of Cracovia's most renowned forwards, the 1948 Champion of Poland together with Cracovia. As a child, he went to an elementary school in Kraków and after classes used to play football in city parks. One day Różankowski was noticed by Cracovia's scout Ignacy Książek, who invited him to the youth team of the club. During the Second World War he lived in Myślenice, to return to Kraków in 1945. Stanisław Baran
Stanisław Franciszek Baran (26 April 1920 – 12 May 1993) was an interwar Polish football player, who started his career in Resovia Rzeszów, then, sometime in 1938 (at the age of around 18) moved to Warszawianka Warszawa. Regarded as one of the most gifted players of these times, however World War II stopped his career for a few years. Baran was a member of the Poland national team in 1938 FIFA World Cup, but did not play in the legendary game Poland – Brazil 5–6 (5 June 1938, Strasbourg, France) – he spent the whole match on the bench. Also, played in the last international friendly of interwar Poland (Poland – Hungary 4–2, 27 August 1939, Warsaw). In this game, he appeared on the field as a replacement, in 31st minute.
