1948 Mississippi State Maroons Football Team
The 1948 Mississippi State Maroons football team represented Mississippi State University, Mississippi State College during the 1948 college football season. This was the only of head coach Allyn McKeen's nine seasons that did not end in a winning record for the Maroons. Despite the strong record—his .764 (65–19–3) winning percentage is the best in school history—McKeen was fired after the season. The Maroons, who had won seven or more games in six of McKeen's nine seasons, did not post another seven-win season until 1963 Mississippi State Bulldogs football team, 1963. 1948 Alabama Crimson Tide Football Team
The 1948 Alabama Crimson Tide football team (variously "Alabama", "UA" or "Bama") represented the University of Alabama in the 1948 college football season. It was the Crimson Tide's 54th overall and 15th season as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The team was led by head coach Harold Drew, in his second year, and played their home games at Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Legion Field in Birmingham and Ladd Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. They finished with a record of six wins, four losses and one tie (6–4–1 overall, 4–4–1 in the SEC). Alabama opened the season with a loss to Tulane, the first for Alabama to open a season since 1903. The next week the Crimson Tide had to score a touchdown with ten seconds left to salvage a tie with Vanderbilt in the first game ever played at Ladd Stadium. Vaught–Hemingway Stadium at Hollingsworth Field is an outdoor athletic stadium located in University, Mississippi, United States (although it has an Oxford address). The stadium serves as the home for the University of Mississippi Rebels college football team. The stadium is named after Johnny Vaught and Judge William Hemingway. The LSU–Mississippi State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the LSU Tigers and Mississippi State Bulldogs. Tiger Stadium is an outdoor stadium located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on the campus of Louisiana State University. It is the home stadium of the LSU Tigers football team. Legion Field is an outdoor stadium in the southeastern United States in Birmingham, Alabama, primarily designed to be used as a venue for American football, but occasionally used for other large outdoor events. Opened in 1927, it is named in honor of the American Legion, a U.S. organization of military veterans.
