1948 Republic Of China Legislative Election
The 1st Legislative Yuan election was held in China between 21 and 23 January 1948. This election, and the preceding 1947 National Assembly election are the first elections of under the newly ratified 1947 Constitution of the Republic of China. Under this constitution, the Legislative Yuan is a standing legislature when the National Assembly is not in session. At the time most of Chinese territory was under the control of the government of the Republic of China, using a direct voting system elected 759 Legislative Representatives. Using the Republic's then 461 million population to calculate, on average 600,000 people elected one representative in the Legislative Yuan. The election along with the one held for the National Assembly also made China the largest democracy at the time. The newly elected Legislative Yuan met for the first time on 21 May. Sung Chi-li
Sung Chi-li (born 17 September 1948), born Sung , is a notorious Taiwan cult leader and geomancer who founded the Sung Chi-li Miracle Association and the Great Sun Sect. He was embroiled in a scandal in 1996 and accused of swindling US$7 million from his followers. He was convicted of fraud in 1997 and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. His verdict was later overturned in 2003 by the high court which cited freedom of religion was protected under Taiwan's constitution. Yu Shyi-kun
You Si-kun (; born 25 April 1948), also romanized Yu Shyi-kun, is a Taiwanese politician serving as a member and the president of the Legislative Yuan. He was one of the founding members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), and is known to be a strong advocate of Taiwan independence. Taiwan Police College (TPC; ) is a police academy located in Wenshan District, Taipei, Taiwan. The academy is in charge for the education of basic police officers of Taiwan. The institution functions at the level of a junior college, and is responsible for training low-level police officers. Zhongxing New Village, sometimes rendered as Chunghsing New Village is an urban village located in Nantou City, Nantou County, Taiwan (ROC) and was until 2018, when the Taiwan Provincial Government was abolished, was the seat of government of Taiwan Province. The term ''zhōngxīng'' is from a Chinese legend (), referring to the restoration of the Xia Dynasty by king Shao Kang, an allusion to the ROC government taking back mainland China.
