1947–48 Chicago Black Hawks Season
The 1947–48 Chicago Black Hawks season was the team's 22nd season in the National Hockey League, and they were coming off a last place finish in the 1946–47 season, failing to qualify for post-season play. The Black Hawks would make a big trade six games into the season, dealing the leading scorer from the 1946–47 season, Max Bentley, and Cy Thomas to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Gaye Stewart and Bud Poile. Bill Tobin (ice Hockey)
William John Tobin (May 20, 1895 – May 8, 1963) was a Canadian ice hockey player, executive and head coach. He was a senior executive with the Chicago Black Hawks for the team's first 36 years of existence, also serving as coach for parts of two seasons. From 1946 to 1950, he was also the team's principal owner. Personal information Tobin was born in Ottawa, Ontario. Tobin died in Chicago's Mercy Hospital of emphysema. He was survived by his wife Muriel, son Donald W. and daughter Mrs. Elaine Bovaird, all of Chicago, and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Sunderland and Mrs. Gertrude Ashe, both of Ottawa. Max Bentley
Maxwell Herbert Lloyd Bentley (March 1, 1920 – January 19, 1984) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played for the Chicago Black Hawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League (NHL) as part of a professional and senior career that spanned 20 years. He was the NHL's leading scorer twice in a row, and in 1946 won the Hart Trophy as most valuable player. He played in four All-Star Games and was twice named to a post-season All-Star team. Bentley was one of six hockey-playing brothers, and at one point played with four of his brothers with the Drumheller Miners of the Alberta Senior Hockey League. Hully Gee
George Nathaniel "Hully" Gee (June 28, 1922 – January 14, 1972) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Chicago Black Hawks and Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League between 1945 and 1954. He won the Stanley Cup with Detroit in 1950. Playing career Gee began his NHL career with the Chicago Black Hawks in 1945–46. Roy Conacher
Roy Gordon Conacher (October 5, 1916 – December 29, 1984) was a Canadian professional ice hockey left winger who played 11 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Black Hawks. He was the NHL's leading goal-scorer in 1938–39, his first season in the league. Norman Robert "Bud" Poile (February 10, 1924 – January 4, 2005) was a professional ice hockey player, coach, general manager, and league executive. Bud is the brother of Don Poile, and the father of David Poile. Overview Poile was born in Fort William, Ontario and played junior hockey for the Fort William Rangers.
