1947 Alamo Bowl
The 1947 Alamo Bowl was a post-season college football bowl game in Texas between the Hardin–Simmons Cowboys and Denver Pioneers, played in San Antonio on January 4 at Alamo Stadium. Originally scheduled for New Year's Day, freezing temperatures and icy conditions postponed the game three days. After a scoreless first quarter on a windy Saturday afternoon, Hardin–Simmons shut out Denver 20–0. Poor attendance (3,730) caused the game to be a financial failure and was not scheduled again. There is no relation between this game and the current Alamo Bowl, which began in 1993. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. List Of College Bowl Games
The following is a list of current, defunct, and proposed college football bowl games. Three bowl games are currently part of the College Football Playoff, a selection system that creates bowl matchups involving four of the top-ranked teams in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). There are also a number of other college football postseason invitationals, as well as several all-star games. For nearly a century, bowl games were the purview of only the very best teams, but a steady proliferation of new bowl games required more teams, with 70 participating teams by the 2010–11 bowl season, then 80 participating teams by the 2015–16 bowl season. As a result, the NCAA has steadily reduced the criteria for bowl eligibility. Teams with a non-winning record (6–6) were allowed starting in 2010. The 1993 Alamo Bowl was the inaugural edition of the college football bowl game and featured the California Golden Bears of the Pacific-10 Conference and the Iowa Hawkeyes of the Big Ten Conference. Part of the 1993–94 bowl schedule, it was played on New Year's Eve at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Held on Friday night, it was televised by ESPN and kicked off shortly after 8:30 p.m. CST. The Alamo Bowl is an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision college football bowl game played annually since 1993 in the Alamodome in San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas. Clyde Wesley "Cac" Hubbard (September 13, 1896 – October 30, 1980) was an American football, basketball, and baseball coach and college athletics administrator. Hubbard served as the head football coach at the College of Puget Sound—now known as the University of Puget Sound—from 1926 to 1928 and at the University of Denver from 1939 to 1941 and again from 1944 to 1947, compiling a career college football coaching record of 45–35–10. Hubbard was the head basketball coach at Denver from 1932 to 1940 and the school's baseball coach in 1948. 1946 Denver Pioneers Football Team
The 1946 Denver Pioneers football team was an American football team that represented the University of Denver as member of the Mountain States Conference (MSC) during the 1946 college football season. In their sixth season under head coach Cac Hubbard, the Pioneers compiled a 5–5–1 record (4–1–1 against conference opponents), shared the MSC title with Utah State, and were outscored by a total of 182 to 179. They played in the 1947 Alamo Bowl, losing by at 20–0 score to Hardin–Simmons. Three Denver players were selected by the International News Service as first-team players on the 1946 All-Mountain States football team: Bob Hazelhurst at back; Gregg Browning at end; and George MIller at tackle.
