The 1946–47 season was the 55th season in Liverpool F.C.'s existence, and ended with the club winning the title by one point over Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Cyril Sidlow
Cyril Sidlow (26 November 1915 – 12 April 2005) was a Welsh football goalkeeper. He played for several football clubs, most notably Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool. Life and playing career Sidlow was born in Colwyn Bay, Conwy, North Wales. He played for Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He was signed by the Wolves in 1937 by Major Frank Buckley. Sidlow was the first choice Wolves keeper before the war, but the signing of Bert Williams after the war limited his chances. His career included a notable international match between England and Wales at Ninian Park where Wolves supplied both the England keeper (Williams) and Welsh keeper (Sidlow). With the Wolves having two international keepers, this led to Sidlow being surplus to requirements. Harry Eastham
Henry Eastham (30 June 1917 – September 1998) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside forward. Active between 1934 and 1954, Eastham made over 250 appearances in the Football League. Early life Harry Eastham was born on 30 June 1917 in Blackpool. Phil Taylor (footballer, Born 1917)
Philip Henry Taylor (18 September 1917 – 1 December 2012) was an English footballer who played for and managed Liverpool. Player Taylor played for his hometown club Bristol Rovers as an apprentice (in 21 league matches, scoring twice) before he was signed by Liverpool manager George Patterson for £5000 plus Ted Hartill in March 1936, he made his debut on the 28th of the same month in a league game at the Baseball Ground, Liverpool shared the points with Derby County in a 2–2 draw with Taylor scoring a late equaliser, his first goal for the club. Taylor joined Liverpool as a young inside-forward with a lot of potential, but was reverted by George Kay to wing-half in which position he developed into a stylish, composed defender. Eddie Spicer
Edwin "Eddie" "Ted" Spicer (20 September 1922 – 25 December 2004) was a professional English footballer who played for Liverpool. His parents were George Stephen Spicer (1894-1956) and Ethel Anne Warren (1900-1981). He was married to Norma Anne Roberts (1926-2002). They were married in March 1946 in Wrexham and they had two children. Career Born in Liverpool, England, the 17-year-old Spicer signed professional forms for Liverpool in October 1939 after impressing manager George Kay. Like so many professional players, Spicer's career was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War, due to this Eddie's 'official' debut was seven years after he first signed. Stan Palk
Stanley Palk (28 October 1921 – 12 October 2009) was an English footballer. An inside-forward, he moved from South Liverpool to Liverpool in 1940. He remained at the club throughout World War II, whilst also serving with the Royal Navy in Mombasa. He played 13 league games for the club after the war, and was a squad member for the First Division title winning season of 1946–47, before joining Port Vale as part-exchange for a £10,000 transfer fee in July 1948. He made 169 appearances in all competitions for the "Valiants", before heading into non-League football with Worcester City, Flint Town, Oswestry Town, and Maghull. Bob Paisley
Robert Paisley OBE (23 January 1919 – 14 February 1996) was an English professional football manager and player who played as a wing-half. He spent almost 50 years with Liverpool and is regarded, due to his achievements with the club, as one of the greatest managers of all time. Reluctantly taking the job in 1974, he built on the foundations laid by his predecessor Bill Shankly. Paisley is the first of three managers to have won the European Cup three times. He is also one of five managers to have won the English top-flight championship as both a player and manager at the same club. Raymond Lambert (18 July 1922 – 22 October 2009) was a Wales national football team, Welsh footballer who played for Liverpool F.C., Liverpool. Life and playing career Born in Bagillt, Flintshire, Wales, Lambert joined the Reds as an amateur schoolboy in 1936 aged 13. In doing so, he set the record for being the youngest ever player to join a league side. Laurie Hughes (2 March 1924 – 9 September 2011) was a footballer who played as a centre half for Liverpool. He made three appearances for the England national team. Life and playing career Born in 12 Gleave Street, Everton, Liverpool, England, Hughes was a strong, uncompromising centre half, who could also play wing half; he had the knack of being able to read the game-stopping moves before they caused too many problems.
