1946–47 Huddersfield Town A.F.C. Season
Huddersfield Town's 1946–47 campaign was the first full season since the end of World War II, but Town would have little to cheer during the season. Under David Steele (footballer), David Steele, Town were in the relegation zone for majority of the season, but because of the even worse displays of relegation candidates Brentford F.C., Brentford and Leeds United F.C., Leeds United saw Town live to fight another day in Football League First Division, Division 1. Huddersfield Town A
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution. John Simpson (27 October 1918 – 21 June 2000) was an English-born association football, footballer who played as a defender (association football)#Full back, left back in The Football League in the 1940s and 1950s. After playing as an amateur for Hull City F.C., Hull City reserves, he started his league career with Huddersfield Town A.F.C., Huddersfield Town and then moved to York City F.C., York City, first playing for them in 1947–48 Football League, 1947–48. Bill Hayes (footballer, Born 1915)
William Edward Hayes (7 November 1915 in Cork, Ireland – 22 April 1987) was an Irish footballer who played for Huddersfield Town, Cork United and Burnley. As an international, Hayes played for both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. Like fellow dual international, Billy Walsh, he also represented England Schoolboys. Another William Hayes also played for Ireland during the 1940s. Club career Huddersfield Town Hayes moved to England as a youth and played junior football in the Sheffield area before being spotted by Huddersfield Town as a teenager. Eddie Boot
Edmund Boot (13 October 1915 – 1999) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League as a left half for Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town. He went on to become manager of Huddersfield Town. Boot was born in Laughton Common, near Rotherham. He played non-league football for Aughton and Denaby United before joining Sheffield United in 1934. He played 41 matches for the club in the Second Division, then in 1937 signed for First Division club Huddersfield Town. He appeared in the 1938 FA Cup Final, captained the side in the post-war period, and played 305 games for Huddersfield, all in the First Division, before retiring as a player in 1952.
