Kemal Unakıtan
Kemal Unakıtan (February 14, 1946 – October 12, 2016) was the Minister of Finance of Turkey from November 2002 to May 2009 and a Member of Parliament for Istanbul of the Justice and Development Party. He was born in Edirne. Previously he was a board member of the Family Finance Group. During his tenure as minister of finance Unakitan presided over a number of situations primarily the Treasury's need to raise funds (!) at a time when Turkey had a large national debt and was failing to collect taxes to cover it. Unakıtan therefore * sold forestry land to raise funds for the treasury * raised fuel duties and other indirect taxation plus * imposed extra duties and payments such as his "permanent earthquake fund" On March 7, 2008, Unakıtan received the Finance Minister of the Year Award from the business magazine The Banker. Saffet Arıkan
Saffet Arıkan (1888–1946) was a Turkish politician and former government minister. Biography He was born in Erzincan, Ottoman Empire. In 1910 he graduated from the Military Academy. After a brief service in Yemen, he was appointed to an office work in İstanbul. In 1915 he fought in the Battle of Gully Ravine (''Kerevizdere'') during the Dardanelles Campaign. Later he also served in the Mesopotamia. After the Ottoman Empire was defeated in World War I, he joined the nationalists in the Turkish War of Independence. He served briefly as the military attache of the newly founded Turkey in Moscow. Beginning by 8 August 1923, he was elected as an MP in the 2nd Parliament of Turkey. Nevzat Tandoğan
Abdullah Nevzat Tandoğan (1894 – 9 July 1946) was the fourth mayor and governor of Ankara serving between 1929 and 1946. He committed suicide upon a political scandal he was involved in. Early life and career Abdullah Nevzat was born into a wealthy family in 1894 at Istanbul, then Ottoman Empire. His father was from Sarajevo and his mother from Belgrade. He completed his education in Istanbul Law School, today Istanbul University Faculty of Law. After the Surname Law was enacted in Turkey in 1934, he adopted the family name Tandoğan. He was married, and had two children. During World War I, he served as an intelligence officer in the Ottoman Army in Istanbul. Fikret Kızılok
Fikret Kızılok (November 10, 1946 – September 22, 2001) was a Turkish rock musician. He was a pioneer of Anatolian rock, a prolific songwriter, impresario, multi-instrumentalist, and an early experimentalist. Due to a heart disease, he died on September 22, 2001. Early life Kızılok was introduced to music during his secondary school years at the Galatasaray High School, a top high school in Turkey that produced music legends Barış Manço and Timur Selçuk as well, although Kızılok went on later to study dentistry. Ömer Zülfü Livaneli (born 20 June 1946), is a Turkish musician, author, poet, and politician. Livaneli was imprisoned several times during the 1971 Turkish coup d'état because of his political views and had to leave Turkey in 1972 and went on exile. He lived in Stockholm, Paris, Athens, and New York where he met and collaborated with artists and intellectuals such as Elia Kazan, Arthur Miller, James Baldwin, and Peter Ustinov among others. Livaneli returned to Turkey in 1984. His works and cultural and political activities and contributions to world peace were recognized by UNESCO in 1995 when he was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to UNESCO. The 50th government of Turkey (25 June 1993 – 5 October 1995) was a coalition government formed by True Path Party (DYP) and Social Democratic Populist Party (SHP). Background The prime minister of the 49th government of Turkey was Süleyman Demirel of DYP. Tansu Çiller (; born 24 May 1946) is a Turkish academic, economist and politician who served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Turkey from 1993 to 1996. She is Turkey's first and only female prime minister to date. As the leader of the True Path Party, she went on to concurrently serve as Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey and as Minister of Foreign Affairs between 1996 and 1997. As a Professor of Economics, Çiller was appointed Minister of State for the economy by Prime Minister Süleyman Demirel in 1991.
