Francisco Franco Bahamonde (; 4 December 1892 – 20 November 1975) was a Spanish general who led the Nationalist faction (Spanish Civil War), Nationalist forces in overthrowing the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War and thereafter ruled over Spanish State, Spain from 1939 to 1975 as a dictator, assuming the title ''Caudillo''. This period in Spanish history, from the Nationalist victory to Franco's death, is commonly known as Francoist Spain or as the Francoist dictatorship. Born in Ferrol, Spain, Ferrol, Galicia (Spain), Galicia, into an upper-class military family, Franco served in the Spanish Army as a cadet in the Toledo Infantry Academy from 1907 to 1910. The Invasion of Val d'Aran, known under the code name ''Operación Reconquista de España'' ("Operation Reconquest of Spain"), was a military operation launched in October 1944 by the Unión Nacional Española (antifrancoist) (:es:Unión Nacional Española (antifranquista), es) (UNE). José Gómez (cyclist)
José Gómez Lucas (9 January 1944 – 14 June 2014) was a Spanish cyclist. He competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics, finishing 15th overall in the individual road race and 12th overall with the Spanish team in the team time trial. As a professional, Gómez was the overall general classification winner of the 1970 Vuelta a AndalucÃa, the 1971 Tour de Menorca and the 1972 Klasika Primavera. He retired from racing after the 1975 Vuelta a España. Emilio Zapico
Emilio RodrÃguez Zapico (27 May 1944 – 6 August 1996) was a Spanish racing driver. He entered one Formula One Grand Prix, the 1976 Spanish Grand Prix, with the then-struggling Williams team, but failed to qualify. The Williams FW04 that Zapico used was already a year old, and it was later used by Brian McGuire. He later returned to Touring Cars in the 1980s before retiring. Zapico was killed in an aircraft accident, piloting his ultralight in Huete, Spain, on 6 August 1996. José Sancho
José Asunción MartÃnez (11 November 1944 – 3 March 2013) better known as José Sancho or Pepe Sancho, was a Spanish actor. Over a period of fifty years he appeared extensively in Spanish television and films. He was perhaps best known internationally for his roles in Pedro Almodóvar's films ''Live Flesh'' and ''Talk to Her''. Private life Sancho was born in Manises (Valencia), Spain, in 1944. He married and divorced twice the singer MarÃa Jiménez (with whom he had a son named Alejandro) and, after his second divorce with Jiménez, he married journalist Reyes Monforte, from 2006 until the death of the actor in 2013. He was a cousin of the Spanish Socialist Party politician Antoni Asunción. Sancho died March 3, 2013 with 68 years old in Valencia after a long illness from a lung cancer. Jesús Aranguren
Jesús 'Txutxi' Aranguren Merino (26 December 1944 – 21 March 2011) was a Spanish football defender and coach. His 13-year professional career was solely associated with Athletic Bilbao, with which he played in nearly 400 official games, winning two Copa del Rey trophies. Playing career Born in Portugalete, Biscay, Aranguren joined Basque Country giants Athletic Bilbao's youth system at the age of 16, from neighbouring Sestao Sport Club. On 18 November 1962, one month shy of his 18th birthday, he made his first-team – and La Liga – debut, playing the entire 2–1 away win against Córdoba CF, and finished his first season with 18 matches. Alfredo Javaloyes López
Alfredo Javaloyes López (March 22, 1865 - February 18, 1944 ) was a Spanish musician. His best known work is the military march '' El Abanico'' ("The Fan"), composed in the year 1910. Javaloyes Lopez was born in 1865 in the town of Elche, Province of Alicante, Spain. The street where he was born now bears his name. He studied music in Barcelona in 1880 with the composers Fabio Campano and Felip Pedrell. A streetcar accident permanently disabled his left hand, ending his performing career. With the support of Pedrell, he studied to become a military music director. In 1901, he became music director to the Sevilla Regiment 33 in Cartagena.
