Incumbents * Monarch – Christian X * Prime minister – Erik Scavenius (until 29 September), German military rule Events * 29 April – Some 100 prominent Danes are taken hostage by the occupying German forces in the attempt to stop sabotage by the Danish resistance movement. * 29 August – The Danish government resigns, leading to direct administration of Denmark by German authority. * 28 September – Georg Ferdinand Duckwitz, a German diplomat, after secretly making sure Sweden would receive Jewish refugees, leaks word of the German plans for the arrest and deportation of the some 8,000 Danish Jews to Hans Hedtoft, chairman of the Danish Social Democratic Party. The result is the rescue of the Danish Jews, with most of the country's Jews escaping to Sweden. Kurt Trampedach
Kurt Trampedach (13 May 1943 – 12 November 2013) was a Danish painter and sculptor. Biography Trampedach was born at Hillerød. He studied at the Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1963 to 1969. He had his artistic breakthrough by the end of the sixties. He has often made distorted self-portraits and portraits of his own wife. Portraits of horses, and of large- headed babies were other favorite motifs. His dark style was particularly inspired by Rembrandt van Rijn. Painting was a way for him to work with his own psyche, with frequent bouts of depression and mania. In 1983 Trampedach's studio in Copenhagen was set on fire destroying many paintings. In 1984 he received the Eckersberg Medal. With his wife he moved to Sare in the French Pyrenees where he lived in a house built by himself, raising animals and painting. Karen Hannover
Karen Anna Hannover née Topsøe (1872–1943) was a Danish ceramist. With no formal education in art, while in Paris in 1892–94, she was inspired to take an interest in culture by her aunt, the painter Anna Petersen. This led to contacts with the artist Jens Ferdinand Willumsen and the poet Sophus Claussen. In 1897, she married the art historian Emil Hannover who took a special interest in ceramics. After spending several years raising a family, in 1910 she began to experiment with ceramics, participating in Landsforeningen Dansk Kunsthaandværk's exhibition at the Danish Museum of Art & Design, Museum of Decorative Art in 1912. Thanks to her concern for quality, she went on to create white glazed faience works, sparsely tinted in green. Her jars and bowls were decorated with leafy vines, flowers and fruits, in some cases taking the form of fruits themselves.
