1941–42 Nationalliga
Statistics of Swiss Super League in the 1941–42 season. Overview The Nationalliga was contested by 14 teams and in this season it ended in a heat, because two teams ended the season equal on points. Thus a play-off was required, between the Grasshopper Club Zürich and FC Grenchen. The first game ended 0–0 in Bern, the second game ended 1–1 in Basel. The championship title awarded to GC on goal average. The 1st League was contested by 25 teams, these were divided into two groups. There were twelve teams contesting in group East and thirteen in group West. The winner of each group had to play a play-off for promotion to the Nationalliga. Basel finished their season as winners of group East and the play-offs were then against group West winners Bern, the away tie ending with a goalless draw and Basel won their home tie 3–1 to achieve Promotion. Swiss Super League
The Swiss Super League (known as the Credit Suisse Super League for sponsorship reasons) is a Swiss professional league in the top tier of the Swiss football league system and has been played in its current format since the 2003–04 season. As of January 2022, the Swiss Super League is ranked 14th in Europe according to UEFA's ranking of league coefficients, which is based upon Swiss team performances in European competitions. The 2022–23 season will be the 126th season of the Swiss top-flight, making it the longest continuously running top-flight national league. Overview The Super League is played over 36 rounds from the end of July to May, with a winter break from mid-December to the first week of February. FC Aarau
FC Aarau is a Swiss football club based in Aarau. They play in the Swiss Challenge League, the second tier of Swiss football after being relegated from Swiss Super League. History FC Aarau was formed on 26 May 1902 by workers from a local brewery. The early days of the club were a success and they won the Swiss championship in 1911–12 and then again in 1913–14. The club spent 25 years, from 1907 to 1933, in the top league but were relegated to the lower league and were unable to return to the top flight for a number of decades. In the 1980–81 season the club were able to return to the top league in the Swiss football pyramid after a 3–1 victory over Vevey-Sports. Zug 94 is a Swiss association football, football team based in Zug, in the Canton of Zug which competes in the 1. Liga Classic, 1. Liga. It was formed in 1994 after a merger between SC Zug and FC Zug. During the summer of 1983, Ottmar Hitzfeld signed his first coaching contract with the former SC Zug, at that time in the second tier of Swiss football. The team ended the 1983–84 season as Nationalliga B champions. Thus Hitzfeld and his team achieved immediate promotion to the Swiss Super League, Nationalliga A, for the first and only time in the clubs history.
