1939–40 Ranji Trophy
The 1939–40 Ranji Trophy was the sixth season of the Ranji Trophy. Eighteen teams took part in four zones in a knockout format. Northern India who appeared in the previous season dropped out but would return in 1940–41. Maharashtra won their first title defeating United Provinces in the final. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the national governing body for cricket in India. Its headquarters are situated at Cricket centre, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The BCCI is the richest governing body of cricket in the world and is part of the ''Big Three'' of international cricket, along with Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board. Phiroze Palia
Phiroze Edulji Palia (5 September 1910 – 9 September 1981) was an early Indian cricketer. His first name is sometimes written as other orthographic variations including Phiroz. Palia represented India in his first ever Test match at Lord's in 1932. He suffered an injury while fielding. In the second innings he was hardly in a position to walk, but batted as the last man. He again toured England in 1936 and played at Lord's. He represented United Provinces in the Ranji Trophy and the Parses in the Bombay Pentangular. Masood Salahuddin
Masood Salahuddin (24 December 1915 – 21 March 2006) was a Pakistani cricket umpire. He stood in one Test match, Pakistan vs. India in Karachi in 1955. He had a long playing career in first-class cricket as a pace bowler, beginning in the Ranji Trophy in 1934-35 for United Provinces, and continuing after independence of Pakistan as captain of Railways until 1958-59. He took 21 wickets at an average of 18.80 for United Provinces, including 6 for 62 against Bengal in 1939-40. He played two matches for India against the visiting Australian team in 1935-36. For Railways his captaincy was more important: beginning his career there at the age of 37, in 10 matches he bowled only 102 overs and took 12 wickets at 24.41, and sometimes made useful runs in the lower order, 275 at 17.18. Kamal Bhandarkar
Kamal Vinayakrao Bhandarkar (21 February 1911 – 10 December 1986) was an Indian cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1935 to 1949. Bhandarkar was a wicketkeeper-batsman. He was a member of the Ranji Trophy winning teams of Maharashtra in 1939–40 and Holkar in 1945–46. Opening the batting for Maharashtra against Kathiawar in the Ranji Trophy in 1948–49, he scored 205 and set a world record second-wicket partnership of 455 with B. B. Sriranga Wasudev 'Ranga' Sohoni (5 March 1918 – 19 May 1993) was an Indian international cricketer. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cricket team is a domestic cricket team in Pakistan representing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Southern Punjab Cricket Team (India)
The Southern Punjab cricket team was an Indian domestic team representing the southern part of the Indian state of Punjab during the time of the British Raj and later the southern part of its Indian successor, following the partition of India. History The team first played first-class cricket in 1926 against a touring Marylebone Cricket Club team. Southern Punjab was one of the teams that competed in the inaugural season of the Ranji Trophy in 1934-35, and it continued to contest the Ranji Trophy until 1951-52. The Delhi cricket team is a first-class cricket team based in Delhi, run by the Delhi District Cricket Association, that plays in India's first class competition, the Ranji Trophy and limited-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The Madhya Pradesh cricket team is a domestic cricket team based in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It competes in the Ranji Trophy. History Holkar cricket team A Central India team competed in the Ranji Trophy between 1934–35 and 1939–40, playing 12 matches. The Bengal cricket team represents the Indian state of West Bengal in domestic first-class cricket. It is considered Eastern India's strongest cricket team.
