1938 Turkish National Division
The 1938 National Division was the 2nd edition of the Turkish National Division. Güneş S.K., Güneş SK won their first title. Overview Fenerbahçe S.K. (football), Fenerbahçe got into a conflict with the Turkish Football Federation, as they initially wanted to play the home games in their own homeground, but the federation declined the request. Fenerbahçe claimed that their travel expenses were not paid appropriately by the TFF and withdrew after the 4th match. Turkish National Division
The National Division or National League ( tr, Millî Küme) was a top-level association football, football competition organised by the Turkish Football Federation, including the most successful teams from Istanbul, Ankara, and İzmir in Turkey. It was the first national league in Turkish football history. The league was played from 1937 Turkish National Division, 1937 to 1950 Turkish National Division, 1950. The top four clubs from Istanbul and the top two clubs from the Ankara and İzmir regional leagues made up the league roster, since the leagues of these three major cities were the strongest in those decades. Şeref Görkey
Şeref Görkey (1 January 1913 - 10 November 2004) was a Turkish footballer and manager who mainly served Turkish side Beşiktaş throughout his career. Nicknamed Voleci Şeref, literally meaning ''"Şeref the Volley Scorer"'', due to his tally of scoring 99 goals of volley shots during his career, Görkey wore number 10 shirt whilst his entire spell at Beşiktaş. He was also part of Turkey's squad at the 1936 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches. Club career Görkey scored 320 goals during his career, where he is one of the most scoring players in fierce rivalries of Beşiktaş, scoring 30 goals to Galatasaray and 13 goals to Fenerbahçe, respectively. The Turkish Football Federation (; TFF) is the governing body of association football in Turkey. It was formed on 23 April 1923, and joined FIFA the same year and UEFA in 1962. The Istanbul Football League ( tr, İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was founded as a regional football league under the name Constantinople Football Association League by James La Fontaine and Henry Pears in Istanbul, the capital of the former Ottoman Empire, in 1904. The Istanbul League was the first football organization ever in the Ottoman Empire and later Turkey. In the inaugural 1904–05 season the matches between the four teams, Moda FC, HMS Imogene, Elpis FC, and Cadi-Keuy FC were played on Sundays, leading to the name of the league, Istanbul Sunday League. Beşiktaş () is a district and municipality of Istanbul, Turkey, located on the European shore of the Bosphorus strait. Ankara Football League
The Ankara Football League ( tr, Ankara Futbol Ligi) was founded as a regional football league for Ankara based clubs in 1922. In the period from 1924 to 1935, the winners of the Ankara League qualified for the former Turkish Football Championship. In 1937 the first national league in Turkish football was introduced. The top two placed teams of the Ankara League qualified for the National Division, which took place after the conclusion of the regional leagues each season. After the introduction of professionalism the name of the league became Ankara Professional Football League in the 1955–56 season. Muhafızgücü
Muhafızgücü SK were a Turkish sports club based in Ankara, Turkey. The club was founded in Ankara after order by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on July 18, 1920. The club was founded under the name ''Muhafız Alayı'' by Mülazım İsmail Hakkı Bey as chairman. On 1 June 1923, the club's name was changed to Muhafızgücü. Muhafızgücü were active in football, basketball, athletics, equestrianism, cycling, polo, and volleyball. They achieved their greatest success in football, when they became Turkish champions in 1927 and in basketball, as they won the Turkish League in the 1973–74 season. Since Muhafızgücü were a military club their colors were red and white, the colors of the Turkish flag. The club was dissolved in 1981.
