50 Kilometres Race Walk
The 50 kilometre race walk was an Olympic athletics event that first appeared in 1932 and made its final Olympic appearance in 2021. The racewalking event is competed as a road race. Athletes must always keep in contact with the ground and the supporting leg must remain straight until the raised leg passes it. 50 kilometres is approximately 31 miles. The 50 kilometres race walk was dropped from the Olympic program after the 2020 Tokyo Games in 2021 and was replaced by a mixed team race, the marathon race walk mixed relay in order to achieve gender equality. Pierre Bussières, (July 8, 1939 – August 15, 2014) was a Canadian politician. Bussières was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1974 federal election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Portneuf. Jānis Daliņš
Jānis Daliņš (5 November 1904 – 11 June 1978) was a Latvian race walker. Competing in the 50 km event he won a silver medal at the 1932 Olympics, becoming the first athlete to win an Olympic medal competing for Latvia. He also won the 1934 European title and set seven world records in the 1930s. At the 1936 Olympics he led the race at 30 km, but abandoned the race due to a leg injury. Biography Daliņš started late, and had his first competition at the age of 22. A few months later he set a Latvian record in the 5000 m walk. He finished second behind Ugo Frigerio in the 7 miles walk event and third behind Alf Pope in the 2 miles walk event at the 1931 AAA Championships. In 1932, he set his first world record, over the 25 mile distance and was later awarded the Order of the Three Stars 5th Class. Sune Carlsson (athlete)
Sune Evert Carlsson (21 December 1931 – 2 July 2024) was a Swedish Olympic sailor in the Star (sailboat), Star class and boatbuilder. He competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, where he finished 10th in the Star class together with Per-Olof Carlsson and won a silver medal at the 1977 Star World Championships together with Leif Carlsson. Biography Carlsson was born in Stockholm on 21 December 1931. When he grew up, he sailed with model boats on Bällstaån and started to build his own boats at the age of 13. Frank Bentley (athlete)
Frank William Bentley (9 October 1886 – 1958) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspur. Career Bentley began his career at his local side Butt Lane, before joining Stoke in 1907. He was not considered a first team player by manager Horace Austerberry but he did play Bentley in the clubs FA Cup fixtures in 1907–08 where he scored against Gainsborough Trinity. He played just once in the League for Stoke against West Bromwich Albion on 14 March 1908. At the end of the season Stoke left the league after suffering financial meltdown and joined the club who replaced Stoke, Tottenham Hotspur. He played 41 matches for Spurs in three seasons at White Hart Lane. 1938 European Athletics Championships
The 2nd European Athletics Championships was a continental athletics competition for European athletes which was held in two places in 1938. The men's event took place in Paris, France between 3–5 September while the women's events were in Vienna, Germany (which had annexed Austria earlier that year) on 17 and 18 September. A total of 32 events were contested at the two competitions, containing 23 events for men and 9 for women.
